"Will ex-military 'Patriots' form a more dangerous kind of militias?"

Original article here.

One of the more disturbing trends we've been observing is the return of far-right "Patriot" rhetoric about government oppression with the election of President Obama. Fueled in no small part by mainstream right-wing talkers proclaiming we're headed into "socialism" -- not to mention a "radical communist" who must be "stopped" or else America will "cease to exist" -- the overheated rhetoric has been gradually getting higher in volume, intensity, and frequency with each passing week.

The initial concern that this raises is the possibility of a new wave of citizen militias, particularly when you have mainstream pundits like Glenn Beck out there helping to promote the concept. As Glenn Greenwald observed, the "Patriots" are back with a vengeance.

At least for the time being, however, there isn't any evidence of new militias forming, though we may see numbers growing within the coming months within existing units, particularly as Fox News and radio pundits start fueling right-wing anxieties.

However, we are starting to see a trend that's even more disturbing: Military veterans voicing Patriot-movement beliefs, including threats of violent resistance to the Obama administration.

These people are beginning to really disgust me.

So revolution and patriotism is anti-American now?

Just annoys me that these guys would have likely turned over Washington and Franklin as dangerous extremists intent on fighting the establishment.

That's the point!

Just annoys me nearly beyond words that these guys would have likely turned over Washington and Franklin as dangerous extremists intent on fighting the establishment.

There comes a time when fighting tyranny is the only solution.

The tyrants know this, and they are more than a little scared.

The tyrants WILL send their Jack-Booted Thugs to start the next war, and some of us who love America will survive and re-build from the ashes.

It takes time and reflection to be de-programmed.

You do not go from saluting authority to rejectng it without a lor of precious time.

This, from another message board:

The oath of enlistment to the US armed forces, which every branch takes, includes the phrase, "all enemies foreign and domestic". A million angry men with guns bent on changing governmental policy could easily turn into a domestic enemy - even if the government isn't supposed to use the military against American citizens, I don't think anyone would mind if the military was turned out to defend Washington against a million lunatics with guns, especially if the military didn't shoot first.

I doubt that many historians would condemn an American administration that mustered the troops to protect the legally elected government from a horde of armed crazies who wanted to institute change by threats instead of votes.

I think what really makes me angry is to see the meekness of it - revolutionary spirit has driven Americans for generations, and its just lacking from these people.
They seem content to forgive anything that their party does, scream loudly when their opposition does the same thing, then meekly go back to forgiving everything because their "team" is back in, no matter what the effects to the American people.

Yah that's right it was Fox News and Glenn Beck who organized all these tea parties. We the sheeple would never be smart enough to come together on our own and figure out the wrong doings. Last time I checked an oath to defend the Constitution was given while you joined the military. If any infractions or gross negligence of this document was being done it should be our duties as citizens and especially veterans to point these facts out and not stand idly by.
People who write these crappy articles make me sick. They take Timothy McVeigh, Neo-nazi's, Families at Waco(Who sounded innocent to me as far as I have researched) and the KKK and paint us with the same brush and think we are out to commit mass murder on innocent people.

Its unfortunate that more of the public isn't aware and mad at what is going on.
Before inflation got so high where 2 family members needed to work to make ends met, T.V's, Ipods, Youtube, American Idol, etc people use to talk to each other and their only entertainment what the community put together. They gossiped and found out about the scum quickly and didn't stand up for it. Of course I use as much technology to entertain myself as the next guy, there is just something going on that has distracted the public.

The military helped to make me the anarchist that I am now. As much as I try to be peaceful, and I hope that this "revolution" will be a peaceful one, I cannot say that I would not associate myself with former military men and women who thought like I do in an effort to form a true defensive militia. I guess I am a hypocrite... whatever.

That is just downright disgusting!
