By the way, the insurance file has been around for quite some time, it is not new.

As far as "damaging information". I do not believe that damage is the direct intent.
Transparency is. Honesty is.
Wikileaks has been successful in exposing a number of issues over the years. And Assange was active in Human Rights and Open Journalism long before Wikileaks was formed.

He is and has been a freedom fighter.

Hopefully the insurance file is so bad when it comes out that the public affairs nightmare that it will create for the government will be so damning that they won't be able to squirm out or around the shock and rise of the general population.

I'm sure some of the Gitmo files personally indict Obama. If so, then it can explicitly show how he is no different from Bush when it comes to these matters. The media and establishment left would have no where to hide from this one.

Tyrannical government pretends to be held hostage by a rogue website owner with hacked files.

Tyrannical government unleashes propaganda machine against this faux threat.

Tyrannical government finds that fear mongering works again as the general public freaks out and puts up no fight over the government taking total control over the last truly free form of expression.

Tyrannical government finds that many of their opponents fell for the trick as well and donated to faux rogue website.

Tyrannical government now knows for sure who to round up first.

Not saying this is truly what is going on but the possibility certainly exists.

Let's not get too carried away just yet. WL is still an unknown at this time. So far they haven't released anything shocking but they sure have given the Feds an excuse to ramp up internet censorship. Im still 50/50 on whether they're legit or just a false flag front. Let's at least wait until they release something that we all don't say "duh" to before claiming them to be a white knight trying to topple the evil wizard.

Criminal behavior by other governments (some led to prosecution)

Aside from the present releases, They have done much over the years.

Just fuckin' look at the reaction of the criminals in Washington.

I'm for WL so far, but, I too would like to see some of the criminals with actual handcuffs on, just tormenting them isn't doing much.

Compared to the fluff I see all over the internet, I don't see that much downright criminal evidence in the courts.

Yes, I'm foaming at the mouth.....

I'm not trying to take the wind out of your sails but let's be real here. They've released info that hasn't done any real damage to anyone other than the guy who supposedly leaked the info in the first place. Criminal behavior by other governments could easily be a CIA release of info to bully those other countries. So far I haven't seen a thing to convince me they are the real deal and their releases so far have been ho-hum (and even very "official version"). Who didn't know war crimes were committed in Iraq? Ive seen videos of it before, long before Collateral Murder was released. Suddenly the media covers WL too. That could also be to give them credibility. Nevermind that Assange's old associate has plainly stated that WL is a CIA front and that's why he left.

What reaction? I see some downtalk like "bad bad Wikileaks" from Hillary and such but that's about it. Where's the resignations? Where's the firings? There aren't any because there's nothing important being released so far. But they sure are getting a soapbox to denounce the internet, shut down domains, and pressure private businesses like Amazon and Paypal to act in "national security interests". This whole thing looks like precedent setting from a gov't perspective.

Like I said, Im 50/50 on it. I need more before I buy into them being genuine. You're free to believe whatever you want but Im certainly not "ignorant" for not ignoring the questions surrounding Wikileaks and I certainly not the only one voicing these concerns.

Wikileaks is legit, the media is just ignoring the actual meat in the documents and focusing the story on Assange himself. WL has exposed some pretty nasty stuff that would make any rational person think twice about our foreign policy. Unfortunately most of that stuff is buried in WL and the media won't cover it.

The government definently is reacting - they are putting heavy pressure on all these companies to cut of their resources. They are trying to silence them discreetly.
