WikiLeaks chief: Charge Palin, Huckabee with ‘incitements to kill’

The editor-in-chief of WikiLeaks called on US authorities to seek charges against high-profile Republicans Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee for "incitements to kill" by the use of "violent rhetoric" against the anti- secrecy outlet.

Julian Assange's plea came in a press release Monday night in the aftermath of the Tucson murders Saturday that left 6 dead and 14 others wounded, the victims of which included Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) and federal judge John Roll.

"No organisation anywhere in the world is a more devoted advocate of free speech than WikiLeaks but when senior politicians and attention seeking media commentators call for specific individuals or groups of people to be killed they should be charged with incitement -- to murder," Assange said, mentioning comments made by, among others, Palin and Huckabee, two likely contenders for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.

It's now clear that Assange is just an opportunistic dumbass looking for some time in the spotlight.

I will vehemently defend him against charges that he did anything illegal, but I don't support him and wish he would just go away.

what he is doing is simply using the politicans rhetoric (who have openly called for his death) and turning it right against them. He obviously doesn't believe they should really be charged, anymore than Assange/Wikileaks

Uh... what are you talking about? I think they should be charged. That's illegal ... you can't go on TV and say you think someone should be illegally shot. I think he at least has a case.

^This. When I saw the title of this thread I thought he was jumping on the "blame the tea party for the Giffords shooting" bandwagon. But that doesn't seem to be the case. Palin and Huckabee were wrong to call for Assange's death on many levels. They may have a right to say crap like that, but that doesn't make what they said right. It sucks to have "allies" like Palin.

This is ridiculous since the kid who did the shooting was a liberal and an anarchist and if anything he blamed her for not being progressive enough....yet the media has been trying to say he is a Tea Partier or a conservative and he wasn't. He was anti-God and anti-conservative but was pissed about the way things are going. The spin just makes me sick...and this last election they resorted to outright lies unlike the usual mudslinging and spin....but to say someone said the opposite of what someone said is disturbing...

Well, technically she said the government should "hunt him down like the leaders of Al Qaeda". That's at least one step (maybe two) of saying he should be legally shot. I'm for hunting down the leaders of Al Qaeda. We might get the answer to the question "Who ordered the 9/11 war games" which simulated the very attacks that ultimately happened and confused the response of the air force.

Assange isn't talking about the recent shooting. He's talking about when Huckabee and Palin literally called for him to be killed.

Palin didn't say anyone should shoot anyone. She just used crosshairs on a website to mark targets of libtards that need to be removed from office via the election process...nothing to do with violence and the left has been the ones calling for a violent revolution so it is getting sickening the crap they are pulling and then their cronies talk crap about everyone except those responsible. Like blaming Bush when at worst Bush's unemployment was what 6% and after our current admin blew 900billion to stop unemployment from going above 8% and now it is 9.4% on paper but they are only counting those collecting so the number of those really out of work with no benefits are much higher, so 17-20% would be a more honest number and we may have gained 1 million jobs but we lost 2.5 million so how is that progress? Not to mention thinking the stimulus had anything to do with it is just silly, Americans can only tighten the pockets for so long and American ingenuity is worth something...so an increase was bound to happen and economically there is no other conclusion to make other than the stimulus was an absolute failure and will likely result in the collapse of the American dollar and its removal as the world's reserve currency which will result in the price of everything being ridiculous, including gas which at its lowest will be no less then $6 a gallon if that were to happen...and if it does there will be no fixing it or going back...

When did they call for someone to be killed and who was it?> I must have missed it, sorry...thought it was in regards to the shooting...

Oh if they were talking about shooting the wikileaks guy, I agree completely. The release of classified documents is an act of war if not committed by a citizen and treason if it was , both punishable by death...so I don't see anything wrong with that if that is the case....

I think you are right - this really has no connection to the AZ shooting and I got confused by the article's attempt to relate the two.

With that said, I still feel Assange is an attention-seeker (even though it is unrelated to this event / thread). He hasn't done anything illegal but I wish he would go away.

Well Ron Paul disagrees with you. So does Judge Andrew Napolitano. So does FBI whisteblower Colleen Rowley. (She's the only person to have caught one of the 9/11 hijackers before 9/11. She said a WikiLeaks like operations could have prevented 9/11). You have a low post count so you might not be aware of the positions of the people you apparently support are on the WikiLeaks issue.

Are you aware of the fact that one of the WikiLeaks documents showed that U.S. defense contractor DynCorp was using taxpayer dollars to secure little boys for Afghanistan police to rape? Do you think that information should have been kept secret? For what possible purpose?

Oh, and this isn't the first time DynCorp has been caught in child rape rings. But somehow they keep getting taxpayer dollars from one administration to the next.

To quote former congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, somehow they never end up in the "penalty box".

Assange is putting soldiers lives at risk, yes? Did Palin put congressperson's life's at risk?

haha yeh whats wit dat

That is nonsense. The same freedom of speech that protects Wikileaks protects them. Incitement has to be more direct and wilful to opportunity.

I never supported 'Assange' per se, but I support freedom of speech, regardless of the subject of the charge.

He hasn't done anything illegal but I wish he would go away.

Why would you want a Journalist and Human Rights activist with a long and successful history of exposing government lies and corruption, to go away?

Well Assange has the freedom of speech to call for the arrest of the people who have called for his death using their freedom of speech. ;)

There was a commentator who said he should be hunted down and illegally shot. That is incitement to violence, imo, and he should be prosecuted. This sort of speech isn't protected, neither is terroristic threats. Perhaps what Palin said didn't go as far as this one guy (whose name I can't remember).
