Why we lost Nevada

An easy way to look at a generation is the event that shaped their lives - usually a war. Just like this generation is being shaped by the war on "terra" and Iraq.

Lots of 60+ were living in the post WWII era where they still had icons of war heros defeating a great evil before America went to the dark side.

Some were shaped by Vietnam or Korea and the fight against Communism (whch like Fascism is the complete opposite of Libertarianism).

When you talk to them make sure you understand where they are coming from.

Mormons were a factor, but most older Republicans are still voting for an American ideal. Most of them probably voted for Reagan too.

The surprising thing is that RP IS that generation and hasn't connected with them yet. Seems like it should be a slam dunk.

We came in second, fine, but:

But we lost HUGE compared to Romney.

It's real simple, a full 45% of Republican voters were OVER 60 YEARS OLD! Didn't ANYBODY see that!

It seems like every caucus and primary has some strength for a particular candidate that Ron Paul has to face. Even if he's right on the issues, Mitt Romney has his mormons in nevada, his father's name recognition in michigan, Mccain has won in new hampshire before, huckabee has his evangelical christians and corn ethanol subsidies in iowa... and they all have tons of media coverage~

It's frustrating that it's not just an issues race, or we'd be dominating.

like I said...

like I said it was tried before by the LP and that is the reason why the party hasn't grown by any significant margin. Yes, the youth can't stand up to the numbers of elderly now, but when more of these crudmudgeons keel over we increase and they decrease, ITS SIMPLE MATH! Let's think long term here...

Your stereotype is a little off. I'm 62 years old, retired, and live on the internet. Bet I'm not the only one, either.

Nope, you're not the only one. My Husband is 59 and I'm 54, we each have a computer and spend a lot of time online. So do most of our friends and family who are in our age group.

Look, this internet stuff is nice and everything, but the MAIN THING we must start doing is going to old folks's homes, churches, bingo, WHATEVER will get older people to vote for Ron Paul.

YOU MUST ALSO REACH OUT TO GOP town, city, county and state org meetings and events too with TABLES.

There is still some hope that we can win. But as I have said over and over the main victory lies in reconnecting the GOP to it's more conservative roots. In that regards every election has been a win... so cheer up... Dr. Paul may not be the next President, but I think the GOP is already moving away from Socialism.

Hah, border ruffians... sure, there are lot of Mormons in the area, but RonRules is definitely correct. Not just old people, though... SO many people don't hear about politics through the computer or even through mainstream news. We must spread Paul's message EVERYWHERE!

I don't mean to throw cold water on your idea, but a lot of old people I know have barely gotten used to music CDs and VCR movies. I know I don't speak for everyone, but many older people are slow to accept new technology. Unless some younger family member has given them a DVD player and some DVDs as a gift, the chances are good that they don't own one.

I cannot believe the national campaign is behind the curve on this. Senior citizens read mail, even junk mail. That is what they grew up with before there were TVs, before there was FM radio, before there were computers or DVDs. Christ! Who the hell at our national campaign is in charge of paid media operations?!?!?!?! You have to hit senior citizens with direct mail pieces in several waves (in addition to a nice friendly visit from local Ron Paul volunteers).

We can actually DROP everything and concentrate on 50 years and UP voters and we can win this election. We've got the young vote. Let's pry them off the keyboard and start canvassing old people. They will love Ron Paul if you explain it to them.

This is my strategy from now on.

In your replies, could you make a list of where older people would most likely receive Ron Paul's message?

I like your thinking.. can't teach an old dog new tricks. good thing Ron Paul has ol' dog character. I like it.. Canvass till dark and then spend a half hour at a retirement home. works for me.

I am 62 and spend lots of time online researching, reading about Ron Paul, but we obviously do not out-number the uninititated. :D

Ron Paul is winning on many fronts, Nevada results are good progress. Real losers in the end will be war mongering necons and their surrogates in MSM.

Great job by those who worked very hard in NV, very well done guys and gals!

Right! It will require a few years-a generation before we SSer's are all gone. In the meantime, the younger folks need to be able to arrange their own retirement. SS was always used as a piggy bank for Congress and they never paid any of it back. (Crooks and liars) :(

Now with medicare it is more costly and prescription drugs are crippling it.

Frankly, all these schemes do nothing but enslave the population who has paid for them and will continue to pay for them.

It should be simple to explain to SS'ers how he plans to transition the programs. We can always check his issues statements or if needed HQ to get a more clear idea so we can explain to people. :)

I wouldn't look at this as a loss...look what was accomplished with grassroots...We beat all but one "top tier" candidate. Look at it: All the candidates got all the press, and we beat them all but Romney. That says alot. Don't be so negative. We're moving up, and people will take notice of this second place win...Ron also got some delegates, and thats what counts.

I agree!

Instead of bringing old people out to vote let's find ways to keep them inside. Here's some suggestions...

-Church service on voting night

-Teenagers playing rap music by the voting centers

-Free viagra pills!

-Free pills of any sort!

-Bingo night (as previously stated)

-Senior appreciation day at the cafeteria.

-Mail-outs to old people residences suggesting gang members are waiting to jump old folks at the voting centers.

-AARP meetings on voting night

-Two words: MATLOCK MARATHON

It is also important to understand opponents' ideas about SS and healthcare.

For example, Hillary talks benevolently about providing healthcare to all, but her plan is that it will be MANDATORY for everyone to have health care. Probably a CRIME if you do not!!

Wonder who will benefit and how the insurance companies will collude to keep prices high. There will be no fair competition. It will be Managed competition just like the Managed trade no doubt.
