Why we lost Nevada

The 50+, and especially 60+ age group has been all along where the main concentration should have been. That's who always goes out and votes. All these people youtubing this and that wasn't doing any good with the older crowd who don't sit around surfing the net and smacking bubble gum. Major TV ads were really the ticket for this crowd, and some newspaper ads, as well as canvassing of course, and visiting places they hang out.

A HALF WAY decent campaign manager could have told me that. I went to a lot of meetup groups, sign wavings, marches, sign paintings (and I'm going to three more tomorrow),

BUT UNTIL I JUST SAW THE NUMBERS, 45% of all Republican over 60 years old, it just dawned on me HOW STUPID WE WERE!

It's not too late. Canvas the cafeterias! Canvas the senior specials, Atlantic City casinos, whatever, this is urgent.

From my experience this morning I will say there was a percentage of religious voters that we would have little chance of persuading on our side. .

I agree. I've tried convincing mormons for years. They are completely shut.

We have to find the Reagan Republicans, and Reagan Democrats. That's our new base.

Ron Paul has never voted to spend a single dollar from Social Security. Tell them this. You might also tell them that the only way they will see the Social Security they deserve is if we pull back from our unconstitutional wars overseas.

This is the angle to take.

Eevry primary that comes gives the same reading: however we cut it, more old folks vote than young folks.

Old folks include many that would agree with Ron on a huge number of issues.

The task is to get the message out there.

Donate to HQ to run ads.
Donate to chip-ins for ads.
Visit old folks you know and tell them about Ron. They tend to go to the same social gatherings etc. so if we get one on-side they'll spread the message.
Maybe visit old folks' homes - though i don't know if this is legal/successful - probably best to check.
Become precint captains.

Romney clearly cheated! All his votes came from across the state line from Utah.

He wouldn't need that to happen to win...there is already a very high percentage of Mormons living in Nevada. Probably the largest organized/corporate religion the state.

Don't worry too much about the Mormon vote. Except for Utah, most have voted already. Nevada, Wyoming, Michigan are good states for them.

It's OLD people folks!

There's just not that many Mormons. Romney inspires confidence to older folks that watch TV. Ron Paul would also inspire confidence, but he's never on TV.

The DVD's are very good and probably the cheapest advertisement we have. Only 39 cents. I think most older people (at least those mobile enough to go vote) have DVD's.

We need to target the DVD bombs (www.ronpaulreveres.com) (www.ronpauldvdbomb.com) to the 60+ crowd.

It makes no sense to send DVD's to 18-16's that all have the internet.

I agree, most of us got sold on RP due to YouTube vids about him. I think the DVD bomb is the best choice for converting those who don't have a clue what YouTube is or may not even use the internet at all.

DVD Bomb is the bestt grassroots idea I've heard, I'd choose it over the blimp.

We came in second, fine, but:

But we lost HUGE compared to Romney.

It's real simple, a full 45% of Republican voters were OVER 60 YEARS OLD! Didn't ANYBODY see that!

Look, this internet stuff is nice and everything, but the MAIN THING we must start doing is going to old folks's homes, churches, bingo, WHATEVER will get older people to vote for Ron Paul.

We can actually DROP everything and concentrate on 50 years and UP voters and we can win this election. We've got the young vote. Let's pry them off the keyboard and start canvassing old people. They will love Ron Paul if you explain it to them.

This is my strategy from now on.

In your replies, could you make a list of where older people would most likely receive Ron Paul's message?

Revise your "Get rid of Medicare" message. It scares the HELL out of old folk. Then you are surprised that they vote for some other candidate?

WE are the ones at fault in the delivery of that message.

Repeat this very carefully to the oldies, and you will get their support.

"Dr. Paul will support all those who are currently dependent on Medicare by curbing wasteful spending in the wars, revising our foreign policy and strengthening the value of the dollar."

or

"Your Medicare money is being spent on the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Medicare is becoming bankrupt. Dr. Paul will put a stop to that and make sure that you can retire without worrying about you Medicare funds."

Romney clearly cheated! All his votes came from across the state line from Utah.

That probably happened too, but the way they changed the rules at the last second, its also likely that alot (maybe all) of the Mormon democrat voters called themselves republican and voted in the republican primary instead. That cheating probably accounted for a lot of votes too.

But I'm sure they weren't all Republicans. Calling yourself a republican just to vote for a mormon is also cheating.

The Ron Paul campaign has learned that the Nevada Republican Party has changed the rules for eligibility requirements for caucusing three times since January 9. Last summer when the January 19 caucus was set, the Nevada GOP announced that caucus would be closed and only for Republicans who had registered by December 19.

On January 10, 2008, a caucus director for the Nevada Republican Party reversed the earlier policy and anounced a new standard by stating that any person who asserts that they are a registered Republican in the precinct but cannot be found in the voter rolls that the Republican party has, would be able to participate if they signed an affidavit attesting to the fact that they were a registered Republican. Then, on January 15 the Ron Paul campaign received communication from the state party that the affidavits would not be used.

However, on January 17 the policy was changed for a third time, as the state party announced that affidavits would be in use throughout the state, subject to the discretion of county central committees and chairs.

The Nevada Republican Party is changing the rules from week to week, and currently the rules will not even be uniform across the state, as eligibility rules may differ from county to county.

How many mormon democrats affirmed they were republicans (and lied)? That is where the surge was, and why the rule was changed at the last minute, which is against GOP rules.

VERY TRUE BUT EXPLAIN IT LIKE THIS: Dr. Paul will SAVE SOCIAL SECURITY & Medicare by Using the $$$ WE Save from NOT spending it in aid to foreign countries. The Older generation who has Paid into SS Will STILL HAVE IT and the Kids entering the work force now can Opt!

Right on! I only wish the official campaign would realize this before it is too late. I am over 50 myself, and live on the internet, but I feel that I am the exception rather than the rule. While a number of senior citizens use the internet, most of the ones I know get their news from other sources, such as newspapers, radio, and TV. Not too many of them spend hours watching YouTube videos either.

Older people remember when our nation was quite different from what it has become in recent years. They have opinions and take their right to vote seriously. As things are now, the only way these people are likely to hear about Ron Paul is through word of mouth. I don't care how many dedicated RP supporters talk to their friends and neighbors. We will not reach the vast majority of people that way.

Please, anyone who has the means to do so, put some attention-grabbing ads in your local newspapers ASAP. It is probably too late for magazines, but maybe those weekly papers with coupons---I think someone mentioned Penny Saver---would be a good idea, too.

Also, how about sticking flyers on the doors of senior housing complexes? Be sure to include a local or toll-free phone number for contact information, and ask people to call if they need a ride to the polls. Tell them the truth about Social Security, so no one can scare them into thinking Ron Paul wants to take away their benefits.

Another good place for FREE advertising are those public bulletin boards often seen in the entrances to grocery stores, libraries, laundromats, coffee houses, etc. The Senior Centers may have them too. All you need is an attractive ad on a sheet of paper and a few thumb tacks, and either some business cards or tear-off strips with a contact phone number. There is a good, general interest PDF ad for this at:

I think we need a 60+ special DVD. I'll contact the RonPaulReveres people.

Meanwhile, could you please recommend YouTube videos that would appeal to old folks?

If you are creating DVD targeting seniors, you want to tone down the revolution talk a little bit. I feel it might sound to severe for them.

Note that the older people in the precinct voted for McCain and basically put it because he is a good guy. They need familiarity, we need Paul to get into the MSM but not just via waving signs or negative press.

I had a Ron Paul sticker on and did notice that people really didn't talk to me much until I made some effort and then they were very nice and receptive. I hope we can reach and talk to people without overwhelming them. Just coming across as nice and caring can go a very long way.

"you want to tone down the revolution talk a little bit. "

Yes, EXACTLY. And lots of 17 year olds chasing a news reporter would probably make senior frisbee's out of those DVD's.

I walked door to door in my precinct and there are SO MANY OLD PEOPLE! All the old people showed up at my caucus and then voted for ROMENY! I honestly do not know what it takes to persuade them. When I was going door to door, they loved Dr. Paul's message, and then they ALL VOTED ROMNEY! But the major thing that hit us hard in Nevada was the Mormon vote. Mormons are some of the most active people in the community and they came out to the caucus, bright and early, and they Voted their Religion! However, there were young Mormon families in my precinct that said that they should vote for their religion but that they had to vote what was in their heart.... to support the Constitution and RON PAUL. That was a memorable moment!

My husband and I are the 2 Delegates for Ron Paul among the 8 delegates in our precinct.
