WHy the new perry ad is great

- Many Perry supporters are now in the defensive and trying to retaliate by pointing to the letter Ron Paul sent to the RNC which if Read actually highlights Pauls consistency and conviction if anything.

- The media likes covering conflict, so this will keep Ron Paul in the News cycle which makes Romney seem more like a distant memory

- Remember while the more active Perry voters may not be won over, those who don't follow this very closely will probably heavily influenced by this AD

- Today in the news, it's a Perry vs Paul world, which can become an interesting narrative for the Media painting it as a texas standoff again making other candidates irrelevant.

Again, this must stay interesting, so hopefully Paul has more pieces on the way.

Plus, Ron is keeping his priorities straight. If he did like all the other Republicans did, and only attacked Obama, the primary voters would never know the bad things about their picks. By attacking the primary challengers, Ron is not only showing the Republican rank and file voters that he is a better choice, they are also showing how strong his game is and gives them a taste of things to come when he eventually is releasing attack ads against Obama in the general election.

I think this will be the real winner out of all this. It'll give the media a reason to talk about Ron Paul.

agreed, the letter only reflects positively on Ron. it shows he values PRINCIPLE OVER PARTY, which may piss off the establishment, but not the average voter.

"I didn't leave the Democratic Party, the party left me," - Ronald Reagan.

Look for Perry to recite those exact words in tomorrow's debate.

Ron Paul's ad is trying to identify Ron Paul with Ronald Reagan, but Ron Paul's letter shows him attacking Reagan. He will be accused of trying to have it both ways.

Hopefully, Ron Paul will be prepared for these charges during tomorrow's debate. No question that the Paul campaign is picking a fight with the Perry campaign. It could elevate Paul's standing, but it could elevate Perry as well. But they could also both end up looking bad with Bachmann and Romney winning by default. It's a risky strategy, but the upside could be quite good. It's likely to cement Ron Paul's position as a first tier candidate.

If Santorum continues his attacks on Ron Paul's foreign policy, (and I expect that he will), then Ron Paul could dominate in terms of debate time and attention.

No way they will declare him the winner no matter how well he responds, but they will give him attention, and that will be good. But, as I say, there are also a lot of downsides to this move. We'll just have to see how it plays out. This looks like it will be the most interesting debate of the campaign in view of how much the media likes to provoke fireworks.

I'd rather have Paul vs Perry than Paul vs Santorum but if we get both like someone else said it allows Paul to dominate the debate. As long as Paul doesn't back down like Pawlenty did when he attacked Romneycare it'll help Paul imo.

This is very sound strategy on the part of the campaign, IMHO. Swinging away at the "front-runner" is the way to go.

I wonder if they got the spot to run the ad during the debate. I know they were actively seeking it :)

If Santorum attacks Paul on Iran again I'd be a little sad. Sad in the idea that Santorum literally learned nothing from the exchange.

Paul's ad identifies with the Candidate Reagan. Paul's letter attacks the President Reagan. 2 different animals.
