Here in Mississippi some control freak of a State Congressman wants every couple that applies for a Marriage license to get mandatory pre-marriage counsuling before they are allowed to get married!

Of course if they can afford it they have to pay for it, but if they can't guess who does.

Yep, the taxpayers of Mississippi.

I called into the radio show when this guy was on arguing his case and told him it was a horrible idea and sounded like a plan to make more work for State paid social workers.

Fortunately the Conservative talk show host agrees with me on this one that the Government shouldn't be mandating or paying for pre-marriage counsuling for citizens. I doubt this will even get out of committee but it just goes to show how much control the politicians want to have over us.

Oh yes, and it's for our own good since divorce rates are so high. That's the justification.

For your information, I was merely responding to sophocles07's "batshit ramblings" about religious institutions, particularly ones like the American "Atheists" which, like the Roman Catholic Church, seek to inject their own ideas into the minds and lifestyles of today's kids, usually through our tax-funded public schools. At least taxpayers don't have to pay for the Roman Catholics to do that.

Although I am not Christian, I would be more worried about molestation. Do you want your children indoctrinated into a church that takes very little responsibility for this kind of activity and left a trail of horror around the world? God is one thing, but man you need to protect those kids as best you can from this type of thing; it can be very destructive. Why not let them grow up and choose what it is they believe? Would that not be the fair thing to do?

Read the history of the Catholic church and the horrible atrocities it committed over centuries and you will re-think sending your kids to learn that garbage.

Why don't you enroll your kids in science camp? They will benefit much more.

Bible study causes your kids to lose the ability to think critically. Basically it makes them gullible and much more likely to accept the lies form future authorities like the government.

Make them think for themselves and keep them away from superstition.

There was a time when kids and their families actually were known to their parish personnel, so they could actually figure out which ones were learning stuff at home.

I just added the link to show everyone that "atheists" have a religious agenda/system by which they hope to indoctrinate and convert people to their faith, just as Roman Catholics do. They want to teach kids that there is no absolute truth and that humans have evolved from slime which came from nothing (their humanist fairy tale). To me, that's worse than the Roman Catholics "being control freaks" about when children can receive the sacraments.

The vast majority of us Atheists don't give a rat's ass about your religion. We're not trying to convert anyone. Stop misrepresenting and vilifying us.

There is a vocal minority of militant atheists, just as there is a vocal group of evangelical uberChristians. You seem to be a member of the latter.
