Why Isn't the Campaign Using Traditional Fundraising Tactics?

I think it would be cool if Ron had a fund raiser dinner every where he goes to campaign. Why not?

I still think this ad would be semi oj for a 30 second spot.

But I really like the CCR music with it...

Save the campaign some money - stop mailing me stuff. I am already in, I will already donate, I promise. Send my letters to someone else. Wish there were a way to register that, it may not be much but if 20k loyal RP supporters didn't need the paper, that's 20k more other people that can get it.

I hear this is in the works. Everything was focused on Iowa's Straw Poll, but now that is out of the way there should be more traditional fundraisers. The scheduling is tough though.

I've seen a bunch. He just had one last week in NH. I don't post them because they are private parties. And I see no reason why the campaign would post parties everyone isn't invited to, either.

Exactly. I went to a $1000 reception in 2007 that I know not everybody knew about because I have a coworker who also donates but in a smaller way, and she didn't get invited. Maybe 40 people were there.

They also did bundling back then, too, though I recall that they got to bundling late in the campaign. I was given a bundling code to give to any friends I persuaded to contribute, and someone with the campaign who was specifically working on that angle called me on the phone to talk for a while.

The latest FEC report made it clear that Romney didn't pull in $10million in a day, that was a lie. He might have gotten 10million in pledges; but not cash.

Perhaps. But he sure as Hell pulled in a lot more than Ron Paul ever will at a dinner. Whether it was 12 million, 10 million, 5 million, or "only" 2 million, it was a heck of a lot more than the $30-250K Ron is likely to get at one of these things.

Not necessarily. Romney filled a large hotel ballroom with phonebankers for a dedicated one day pledge drive. If Ron Paul set it up the same way, the results could surprise everyone.

There are only two candidates with a large database of supporters, Ron Paul and Mitt Romney. Both candidates ran for election in 2008.

I think RP should consider phonebanking, and instead of paying a few hundred phonebankers for the day as Romney did, I'm sure he could have us volunteer for free :).

Also, I think they should set up a pledge page prior to entering the website (as all the other campaigns do), that way they'll have a larger email list of supporters to request for funds. Instead of asking the same 30k people for money each moneybomb, they could expand this to 100k easy by just having this pledge page (those numbers are made up). The grassroots always struggles to reach enough people for the moneybombs; this way the campaign can reach many times more people with just one email.

Here is something I threw together...obviously the campaign can make something much cleaner but it is still a good idea as Romney, Perry, and Bachmann all have them.

Awesome Video!!! Thanks!!

(On another note - I don't really like the high ticket lunch/dinners that Mitt Romney and Rick Perry are doing - I actually went to one for (egads!!) George Bush way back when....

But the thing is, Ron Paul comes of much more sincere and humble and ACCESSIBLE, and these things just smack of big money elite looking for favors....Maybe that's just my old political cynical side coming out, but still....

The morning after the pres5 debate there is a $500 per plate breakfast in orlando with Paul.

I can see a $100 dollar a plate breakfast, but anyone willing to pay $500 or $1,000 for a plate is most likely the kind of supporter who will donate the money anyway and max out. Considering where Paul gets his donations, I'm betting many that attend hold back on donating in case one of these things comes to the area. At the tail end, it also excludes his best donors because they will have maxed out.

Guess I'm saying that with Paul's donor base, I doubt these things attract money that would not have been donated otherwise.

I agree that a main page with an email sign-up or request for donations could be a good idea.

Dr. Paul has so many great quotes that could easily accompany his "Restore America Now" theme on a main page.

They should not do the douchebaggery of requiring an email addy to enter the site and look around. This is bogus to long time net surfers. We do not like being harvested at every turn.

I am guessing it would be illegal for them to say if they maxed out to the campaign to send the cash to RevPAC?

Not for me actually, I will basically donate $100 every money bomb but I'm not donating the $500 or $1000 unless I get the chance to meet him, get pics, autographs, etc. I did pay $500 for the breakfast in Los Angeles after the last debate (just as I did in '07). So I can't speak for others, but he got $500 from me for each campaign (that he otherwise would not have gotten) because he came to town and did a fundraising event.

Fundraising can be done in many ways. Some people only go to dinners, some respond via letter, some respond via telephone, some respond via money bombs. My first presidential fundraiser I went to was Reagan 1980 for 100 dollars. That was the top tier where you could meet Reagan. The campaign and the grassroots need to use all avenues to be successful. I know quite a bit about political fundraising. We need to up our game pronto.

If it works, douchebaggery doesn't matter. Long time net surfers should be familiar with the "continue to website" button without entering their contact info. ;)
