Why is Sallie Mae more incompetent than Direct Loans?

I'm in the process of paying off my student loans (as many of you know). With Direct Loans (a branch of the DoE-all my checks go to the DoE) they send the statements on time every month and the payments have gotten quite a bit lower. With Sallie Mae, they ALWAYS send the statement late (causing me to incur late fees) and the payments are higher (though they've gone down a bit too). I've included notes with my bill telling SM to be more accurate and timely with my statements, to no avail.

Is SM still a GSE? I get the impression from wiki that it's not.

Thanks,
HB34.

I've been paying my Sallie Mae loans for 6 years, was late only once---when I lost my job.
I am paperless and do it online, have you not tried that?
I really see absolutely no reason to blame Sallie Mae...are the due dates not almost the same every month? Do you not know that you can set them to occur on the same date?

Call me paranoid and/or old-fashioned, but I don't trust the paperless billing. How can one not blame Sallie Mae? A creditor is responsible for getting the statements out at a reasonable time. I've never dealt with another agency with this problem. Even Direct Loans (the DoE's agency) does better work in that regard. I once even enclosed a note with a Sallie Mae payment insisting that they correct the problem-to no avail. :p
