Not sure I understand this? Why would Ron advocate locking in to $1.5 trillion deficits?

Thanks for insights & comments.

What are you thinking his suggestion is as opposed to what?

He wants to freeze spending instead of letting it increase to the CBO projections.
Sure, this is not as good as getting real cuts from previous year's spending, but avoiding an increase from last year's spending when the country doesn't have money is a good start.

He's only highlighting the fact that the debate isn't centered around spending cuts, but rather how much is to be increased. Calling out the bullshit so to speak. He's never voted for an unbalanced budget and I doubt he ever will.

This is what I was thinking, too..except that Ron has never compromised on any less than a balanced budget before. I would have expected him to simply continue to say that the spending is too high and the cuts are insignificant. This is a very different position that seems to have slipped under the radar a bit.

He's only throwing it out there as a simple to execute option that saves far more than any of the other plans. It serves more to exemplify the debt crisis situation than to be an actual proposal.

It's like like he's actually proposing it officially to the congress.

With inflation the way it's going to be, it would probably balance the budget in 3 years. Nominal tax revenues will rise a lot if it gets bad.
