Why is everyone so sure the field will diminish to a Miit Vs. RP scenario

I truly hope Ron and Mitt will have a clean fight. I'm no Mitt fan but he does seem like a decent gentleman, I want them to have an intellectual debate on ideas because I know Ron can take him. We just have to knock out all the other posers first.

So let me get this straight...

Step 1) We should knock down liberal Mitt Romney
Step 2) ???
Step 3) Profit

You really think the liberal republicans backing Romney could ever choose RP??

No...but you are forgetting the most important - and numerous - group of all. - THE UNDECIDEDS who are not Mitt lovers!

By sliming Mitt, we then define Ron as the "anti-Mitt", and we will pick up a chunk of these undecideds. If we dont, they are left vulnerable to the media and will scatter among the other clowns while Mitt skates away..

"a decent gentleman"???....Have you forgotten how Mitt and Rudy would LAUGH OUT LOUD as Ron was speaking during the 2007 debates?

He's only being "a gentleman" now because Dr. Paul has gained in stature.

Romney is pure scum.

I truly hope ppl like you dont fall for Mitt's acting. Just look at his body language and fake smile, He's a complete con-artist and will do/say anything to get elected. He's is no 'gentleman', he's evil and a pathological liar.

How do you know the Undecideds will not vote for Mitt?

If I could make a suggestion, I would suggest every capable breathing Ron Paul supporter in the SOUTH start doing this NOW. Get a flyer about Romney's anti-gun history and hand deliver these flyers at every gun show you can find within a 20 mile radius of where you live. You get these pro gun folks see who the real Romney is and the others, we gain that support.

AWESOME idea!!!!

Hope some southerners take this recommendation into consideration. Not only gunshows but even gun shops or shooting ranges would be a great idea also.

Mitt Romney is our biggest ally right now. He keeps the other candidates from running away with the election. If we knock him down before they are out, we won't win. PERIOD

If you are referring to my anti-gun flyer idea, you're missing the point. It's planting the seed of doubt within a small segment of the population. Not everyone owns a gun. Not everyone goes to gun shows. If we can whittle away a slither of support amongst this demographic it does not hurt us, just brings Romney down a few pegs in the polls and possibly closes the gap between Ron and Mitt.

Great thread guys. There are a lot of chess players in this thread debating what is the best approach to advance Ron Paul. Mitt Romney has to be attacked, but when? January 23rd? (just after South Carolina?)

Yeah... I don't think we'll get the opportunity to go 1 on 1 with Mitt unfortunately. The establishment will pump oxygen (and most importantly $$$'s) into the Santorum campaign all the way to the end IMHO. They've already been spinning his embarrassing spending record as a "necessary evil" for any "conservative" senator from Pennsylvania. He is vulnerable on the chicken-hawk line of attack though...

Santorum couldn't even get re-elected to his senate seat last go-round. He's a RINO who happens to appeal to evangelicals who are moderate on economic issues.

I seriously hope this isn't the goal after all is said and done, cause like you, I don't see it happening

Placing a strategy on hitting the side shows(Santorum, Gingrich, Huntsman, Perry) is not only a waste of time but a waste of LIMITED funds.

If you think that's a waste, it would be even more of a waste to go after Romney and help the side shows stay in the race. There are 3 blocs of votes- Romney, Paul, Other/Anti-Romney. Romney and Paul each have a certain base of support. The only way for Paul to win is to pick up more from the Other category- so that he can be both Ron Paul and Anti-Romney ( or at least a good chunk of it). If he hammers Romney, all he's going to do is allow Gingrich to make a comeback or Santorum to keep surging. Or the case of NH, possibly help Huntsman make a good showing.

Chances are if something happens where Gingrich ( or Santorum/whoever) comes back and does well in FL, SC, and other states, HE is going to pick up the Establishment "Anti-Romney" support.

It's getting to the point where there aren't 6-7 Neocons fracturing that vote. SOMEONE is going to step up and take it. Either Paul or someone else is going to be the ant-Romney. The Pro-Romney and Pro-Paul groups are pretty solid. It's getting everything else that matters.

If it gets down to Paul v. Romney, the anti-Romneys will have the opportunity to get behind a real conservative. The choice is theirs. As long as someone like Newt/Santorum is around, they are going to be the 2nd choice of the establishment Republicans, and 1sr choice of Anti-Romneys. Not Paul. Just like in Iowa, Paul beat down Newt hard, and he helped Santorum in the process. The Newt/Cain/Perry early supporters didn't move to Paul. They moved to Santorum after moving from Perry/Cain to Newt. We may have a "nobody but Paul" policy here, but a lot of voters have a "anybody but Paul", "anybody but Mitt," or "anybody but Mitt or Paul."

The establishment has always used a strategy that had a Win-Win scenario, leaving us to pick the lesser of two evils. This whole idea that its going to end up with paul and Mitt being left alone to duke it out is in my opinion totally against what we have seen. A mitt vs. paul actually gives voters a chance, an opportunity!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but they wont give us that opportunity and we will never see a 1 Vs. 1 with Mitt and Ron, leaves too much too much risk for the establishment. Placing a strategy on hitting the side shows(Santorum, Gingrich, Huntsman, Perry) is not only a waste of time but a waste of LIMITED funds.

look at their strategy, not the individuals themselves, but the ESTABLISHMENT! We need to hit Mitt and make him the next Newt. I was happy to see our campaigns ads topple the head of the establishments runner, why aren't we doing the same with Mitt????

Am i wrong with this thinking? Super Tuesday will be just around the corner guys, we need to hit Mitt NOW!!
I think right now we need to make up for the IA blunder and get the first place, or at the miniscule least, a close second. And we also need to get a greater or at least equal amt of delegates out of Live Free or Die state.
