Why Gingrich and Santorum will not drop out and why the campaign should attack Romney

If the campaign is waiting for the race to narrow down to a two-man race, it is a mistake. Think back to a few months ago. It never made sense for Rick Santorum to enter the race. It seemed like a bizarre move. The only explanation is that he was running for VP of Romney and was asked by Karl Rove to enter the race and raise his profile and appeal to the evangelical crowd. So a Romney-Santorum ticket would rein in the evangelicals.

Santorum has been groomed by Karl Rove. Romney and Gingrich too are in the Rove camp. So for the Rove camp to ensure that one of its candidates is the nominee, they need to continue to split the anti-Romney vote and not allow it all to go to Ron Paul. Karl Rove does not care for ideology one way or the other. All he cares is that the big government policies continue so that he and his cronies can continue to feed off the system. To believe that he has only one horse in the race would be folly. Any smart political operative will play more than one candidate.

So it is important to attack all three of them and get their supporters to defect. Romney and Santorum are all over the place on abortion, Romney's Bain Capital made money off Medicare fraud, Romney gave the blueprint for Obamacare, Santorum voted for increasing debts, Gingrich supports the Global Warming myth, Santorum supports ethanol subsidies which is indirect support for the Global Warming myth and all three of them support individual mandate in healthcare.

It really does not matter about issues. As Newt's marital woes foreshadow his political ideology, he's out. Santorum is a joke. So, Ron Paul has to take Romney big in Nevada or the race is over.

Neither Newt nor Tricky Ricky could ever beat Obama in the general. They're both jokes. Romney isn't a joke, but he's unlikely to win the general and more unlikely to win the G.O.P. nomination.

Newt and Tricky Ricky are both staying in the race because Gingrich is better known and better spoken, while Santorum is the same thing with less baggage. So, they both fight for the Fox Fools vote, and they both fight for the Fox Fools vote. And there you are.

There is maybe something to be gained by offering the anti-Romney crowd more than one choice. If, that is, you just want Romney to win. But Romney cannot under any circumstances get enough to win the nomination on the first vote. So, it's actually kind of foolish to keep splitting the Fox Fools vote the way they are--they might be better off giving up on Romney and trying to get one of them the nomination. The only problem is, traditional 'moderate' Republicans consider Romney slick enough to support. None of the Fox flavors could say the same.

They assumed they could throw any idiot up there the way they threw Dubya up there. But Dubya kind of killed off the market for idiot figureheads. I think Americans are, for the most part, sick of being embarassed by the president. So, they miscalculated. And if we can pack the convention and save the G.O.P. from itself, well, there we are.

Whether or not issues matter depends on who you talk to, doesn't it? Ron Paul's voters certainly care about them. As for having to take Romney out or the race is over, is Romney in it? I mean really. The so-called moderates like him, but there is a significant portion of the G.O.P. which will never get behind him for various reasons--his religion, his history of killing jobs, his flip flops, some good reasons and some not reasons at all--and that's that.

Brokered convention, here we come.

Except that the GOP can't win against Obama without either the libertarians and/or the Hispanics voting GOP. And Santorum is Catholic, not evangelical.

My guess is that the VP slot will be either a libertarian leaning type of individual, or a Hispanic (Rubio / Fortuno)

You can talk to as many people as you like, but rarely does John Q. Public cast a vote based upon issues. With Clinton, the image of him kissing Hillary brought the women into the Clinton camp and sealed the deal. The Democrats that control the news and entertainment media are pushing Mitt Romney because, regardless of polls, by the time you get to the run off election, Obama will win in a Romney v. Obama fight. The ONLY hope the Republicans have is Ron Paul. He is the antithesis of Obama, not a clone as is Romney.

I've managed enough campaigns to know what is most likely going to happen.
