Why didn't Paul vote against HR1955: Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism?

Dignifying this tyrannical piece of garbage with a vote might have been a more questionable act than abstaining. The time was better spent campaigning anyway.

true ... i always see campaigning as speaking at events and all that other stuff ... but i guess you got me there ... you win ... i am just glad he was doing something productive

I just now got your 4 private messages about this thread I and see that since this had you all worked up. You finally got the same answer that I gave you that he was campaigning. I strongly hope that you wrote your sentors about this as strongly as you made sure you got an answer. Please keep your answers in the tread don't like the private messages I have nothing to hide do u?

Guys, this has been coming up every once in a while online in important Ron paul videos. People are trying to smear Ron Paul, but they have no idea that Ron wasn't even there, he was campainging. Please keep in mind that the internet is one of the few places that we can convince people so we have to be on our guard on Ron Paul's videos when these paid idiot neocons try to smear him with their drivel and out right lies.

On CSPAN2 tonight, Ron Paul said he was sorry he missed that vote, it was a horrible bill, and he was working on a bill to challenge HR1955.

wrong ... on digg.com ... many people are using it against him in one of their top stories today ... my representative John Duncan ... was one of the 6 who voted "NAY" ... It doesn't matter if it made a difference or not ... did you not see the piece on CNN about ron paul and how he was the lone voter to always vote no .. 406-1 ... etc. ... and ron paul explained a bunch of the votes he voted no on ... and made alot of sense which strengthened the campaign .... don't take me as being negative toward ron paul ...but he himself would want us to question things of this nature .... how do you know he was out campaigning? ... the 22 was a monday ... he was there voting ... 23 was the day of the vote ... and he wasn't there for any of the votes ... 24 was a wed ... and he was there for voting ... www.govtrack.us ....i don't appreciate you saying i'm not doing something constructive ... this is important to me ...so im sure its important to other people

Bump. This is really important to me too... I don't like that he didn't vote on this... this is a stupid ACT.

I'm excited about seeing his replacement bill.

Check out the youtube link posted above. You can get your answer in Ron's own words.

Source material is always best, of course - but it would be awesome if someone would summarize the answer. Many, many people do not have connections that are capable of streaming videos (myself included at the moment).

Well done Wolves Den..thanks for that.

Please can anyone tell me (Iget overwhelmed with too much info on these forums especially this one because its so biiiiig) if something comes up like this that seems very important for grassroots to have the answer to, is there a person, or site who is liasing with Ron Paul's official site...for just the really important stuff that no one could find...a bit like this until Wolves Den turned up...saves time. Alot of us are too busy to go trawling for hours looking for answers. This may have already been brought up but i haven't seen it! Thanks!

In the interest of preventing the disinformation and speculation that manifested itself on this forum regarding, for example, Anita Andrews and her role with the campaign, I have created a "Contact Me" link at the top of my blog so that questions such as this can be quickly and easily answered.

Please feel free to ask me if you have a question about staff, the campaign, or any issue relating to Dr. Paul. Understand that I am still bound by the constraints of federal law and propriety so my answers may not always be satisfying, but I hope it will be helpful in keeping everyone focused on the task at hand, helping Dr. Paul win this race!

I also want to take a second and thank all of you for your hard work and your efforts on behalf of the campaign and the freedom movement.

This may be slightly offtopic, but I think people are becoming unnecessarily worked up over this bill.

If you actually read this bill, rather than just rely on what other sources have said about it, I think you will agree with me that this bill is actually mostly harmless. I'd still recommend a "no" vote because I think it's a waste of money, but this bill doesn't do anything nearly as bad as what people are saying. It's no Military Commissions Act.

This bill only does 2 things:

1) Create a fund for states to use to combat "homegrown terrorism" (defined as the use of violence to further any goal) through community outreach, which I would figure would include classroom discussions, public service announcements, etc. There is a specific prohibition in the bill against using the money for law enforcement.

2) Creates an official "junket" for congressmen to meet with government officials from other nations to talk about what they are doing about "homegrown terrorism."

As far as I can tell, no actual policy changes can be made as a result of those discussions without another bill. So the worst thing this bill can do is waste your money.
