Just two threads in just the past week with video evidence.There are many,many more.Do you think that they would have been more compelling,less compelling or just as compelling with or without the video evidence?

Bear in mind,I am not just talking about members of this forum where we have a natural distrust of the police but of the public in general.

I agree, "There, but for the video..." is certainly true.

I hate the idea of a surveillance grid to fight the surveillance grid, though.

But you are quite right, even though it's not a guarantee, even though the video can show Officer Friendly disemboweling you for "Contempt of Cop" and "policy was followed", it is better to have that, than have nothing.

Yeah you'd think it would help. But how many times have we read where either a. The video evidence was presented and nothing happened to the pigs anyway or B. the judge throws out or disallows the bideo evidence. Until people band together locally to bring attention to THAT and really make mouse and get noticed nothing will change.

Videos will probably best serve as an instructive or corrective device when disseminated publicly. As actual evidence in a court of law, though?

For one thing, they have a tried-and-true process of extralegal exoneration already in place. (They just declare whatever is captured on video to be "in policy" and that's pretty much the end of the matter). For another, the system has ways of simply ignoring things the system wants to ignore ...
