Why can't the U.S. count votes on Election Day?

Sure, that was crazy, but IIRC, after DeSantis was elected, he cleaned house of the most blatantly corrupt election officials, and instituted new processes.

Perhaps. But the election that C H _ D refers to is 2000 - which is prior to 2020
Such a strange phenomenon. Prior to 2020 we were able to count votes just fine.

... and we could have gone back to 1960 and Illinois

Of course. Remember that election night well.

Back when the Democrats were the party of contesting elections and claiming fraud...

The "election procedure" example that I generally refer to is France (population 68.17 million). The French electorate all cast their votes, in person at a qualified election site, on the same day (and there is no advance voting nor absentee ballots). Then again, you don't see hours-long waits for people to cast their ballots in France (and that's a game played in the US - like in Atlanta).

And I forgot to mention, they use paper ballots, which are all hand counted.

I have never, ever seen an election line longer than a few people (in California). Those long lines are outrageous, and it's hard to imagine that people in those states put up with that nonsense. Then again, we all put up with outrages from govt.
