I thought that ebay would be a great place to buy some silver, but it turns out EVERY SINGLE american eagle silver round, no matter what date or condition sells for between 23 and 26 dollars including shipping costs. I understand the collectors value but what are these people thinking? Am i missing something here?

Buy locally. Sadly in my area there is only one bullion store and they charge way too much, however, it beats apmex shipping prices. I have spent more than I would like but I would rather have it than not.

eBay isn't the cheapest if you have money to buy bulk.

But it reflects a good market of people who are willing to make offers.

Why are ASE so expensive? Because they have quality and they're easier to sell (it's a famous mint, with good reputation).

it's all a matter of comparison, if you can't find it any where cheaper, it's the fair price, NEVER compare what you pay to "spot price" (it means almost nothing).

If somebody tells you you overpaid, ask them where they bought it. Or if they're willing to sell you. "I bought it earlier when it was cheap" doesn't count.

ASEs are the Cadillac of 1oz rounds, the most recognized (and pretty) of their class.

Expect to pay a premium above all other kinds.

Look up Gresham's Law if you want the inside story.
