Who's In Charge of America's Uniparty?

America's major problems have been caused by both parties. Whether it be spending, debt, war, or covid, it has all been a joint effort. Despite all the campaign promises made by politicians of all stripes, the trend has always remained the same - government gets more intrusive and overbearing, while Americans lose their freedom and standard of living. If there really is a uniparty, who's in charge?

Perhaps the Devil is in charge of not only America's uniparty, but the uniparty of every other country.

The so-called "uniparty" is just a confluence of mutual public/private interests [1] pursued and maintained by public/private institutional forces and processes. IOW: It's a more or less informal "conspiracy" of convenience under the rubric of "the way things are done around here".

There are many notable personages involved (in addition to many more relatively anonymous players), and they come and go over time, but I don't think any one person or persons are what I would call "in charge" of it. The guidance of the system is much more a function of the aforementioned institutional logic than of the idiosyncratic preferences or decisions of this, that, or the other particular person(s).

As much power and influence as they might wield, none of them - neither the notable nor the anonymous - are as much "in charge" as they (or their opponents, inside the system or out of it) are often prone to imagine.

Some trace of Chaos - and often more than just a trace - always lurks somewhere within the heart of Order (and vice versa).

[1] There are conflicting elements among the confluence, of course, and this gives rise to various competing factions (such as "Democrats" and "Republicans"), but despite their differences (especially in their outward appearances), they ultimately have more in common than not - as is required by the logic of the institutional forces/processes through which they arise and operate.
