If Ron Paul opts out of running for President in 2012, who would you prefer supporting for President in 2012?

I am all for Gary Johnson trying to get back into the lime light.

I mean of course I would want Buchanan, Ventura, Goldwater Jr. to run but it is not likely.

Ventura doing a true independent run would be huge and I would help him get on the ballot, but Johnson could really have a chance in early states. That way we can see the C4L in action.

also i though id be willing to support ventura but...

awhile back but the last time ihe did the talkshow rounds he didnt know anything about some important current events i really thought he was going to start doin some reading and looking into things after he hooked up with alex jones

im not sure i could support him anymore but you never know if he came back strong i guess its possible

DeMint, Buchanan, Ruwart, and maybe AuH20 if he showed decent numbers.

Ruwart is the only one I'd vote for and call a representative. The others are "good enough" and would probably fare well in a primary & GE. Those that weren't listed I doubt would be worth wasting my vote on (esp. since it wouldn't be a vote on principle). I'd just vote LP in the GE to help them achieve automatic ballot access next cycle. WAR is an exception as I personally hate him.

I will NEVER support Johnson because abortion is the right to choose to murder. I have to restrain myself here though because I could post a very passionate rant about abortion, but I don't want to cause an argument here.

If Johnson is chosen, he will not get Ron Paul's entire group of support because Paul has plenty of supporters like me that are firmly opposed to abortion, unlike the libertarians out there supporting him. Its funny that the libertarians defend basically every right there is for freedom, but yet they do not defend the right to life of an unborn child. Ironic isn't it? I think people caught up in the ideas of the libertarians need to re-think the part about abortion. Its why when I choose to support a third party I support the constitution party, although they're messed up on the war on drugs.

So you are taking the living womans right to decide if it is best to have a child and her ability to care for it properly and give those rights to a fetus.

I understand why people are so for and against abortion. But that is my stance. In my man brain, I say anyone couple who considers wanting to abort their child, it is probably better for the child in the end.

What you should know about Johnson is that he vetoed all bills that would fund it. He is probably for repealing Roe vs Wade and giving the states the power to decide.

In the end, I will let the women and (husband, boyfriend or whatever), who have abortions live with the decision and not give govt the power to make you carry a child to birth.

But please reconsider and not let this one issue steer you away from Gary Johnson. He certainly is not pro abortion.

I disagree with a lot of your post, but as a pro-life person, I have to say that I'm willing to support a politician who's not staunchly pro-life as long as I don't feel they're actually PRO-abortion. So you make a good point here.

There are some people in this country who want to fund, or even mandate, abortions in some circumstances, and if I have to choose between someone like that and someone who takes the stance that abortion is "regrettable" but should be "safe, legal, and rare", I obviously opt for the latter.

I like Gary Johnson but I dont really see him as a viable option because he' seen as kind of "nerdy" and he has been out of the politics game for quite sometime now.

Barry Goldwater Jr, same as Johnson. He has been out of the politics game for quite a while also.

To the Libertarians (big 'L') they wont get elected because theyre 3rd party candidates, plain & simple. I've also heard rumblings that Wayne Allen Root may run for Senate against Harry Reid in Nevada. Now that'd be a chance where a Libertarian could win & would be a fun campaign to watch.

I doubt Buchanan will run. He seems to enjoy his spot on MSLSD. I also think the fact that he is on MSNBC would hurt his chances in winning the primaries.

Here is who I see running in the GOP that has a realistic possibility of winning the nomination: Ron Paul, Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Paul Ryan, Tim Pawlenty, Bobby Jindal & Jim DeMint.

The only ones I like out of that group are Ron Paul & Jim DeMint. Romney brought Soviet health care to Massachusetts. Huckabee has openly stated he'd like to replace the Constitution with the words of the Bible. Pawlenty, Ryan, Jindal & Palin are all young, though I guess that doesnt really matter anymore. see current president.

Dr. Paul is getting old. I do not think he will run for that reason & thats also a reason that he wont be deemed electable. Jim DeMint has 'won' me over with his anti-Federal Reserve rhetoric. Now thats the thing, is it simply rhetoric or is he truly an ally of liberty? I dont know how hawkish the man is either.

I really like Sanford and thought he was going to be our guy but that whole Argentinian mistress really screwed up any chances for a presidential run.

In all honesty, we (the liberty movement) dont have a good candidate to run. At this point though, anyone would be better than Barry Hussein. I hate to compromise on principles but if the GOP runs a turd sandwich, I will consider voting for them just to get Obama out of office to stop the bleeding per se.

I vote to ban the living shit out of whoever voted for Palin. I'm not kidding...unless they were kidding.

Ruwart, Johnson, Ventura, and Goldwater are all acceptable to me, viability notwithstanding (i.e. I'd actually feel good about voting for them). Buchanan has his merits, but he has way too much baggage for me to feel good about supporting him. DeMint may be strong on economic issues and an ally against Obama, but he's really just a more fiscally conservative neocon, much like Sanford. He supports destruction of our basic rights via unconstitutional garbage like the Patriot Act, and that would prevent me from ever being able to vote for him. The Patriot Act, warrantless wiretaps, aggressive wars, etc. are all dealbreaker issues for me, and I refuse to compromise on them. I will never vote for a neocon.
