Let me see a show of hands. :)

Those who haven't registered yet, please do so:

Just to remind everyone:

Delegates will adopt a new platform, resolutions, changes to the existing bylaws, and elect a National Committeeman and National Committeewoman. In addition, 13 at-large delegates and 13 alternates will be elected to attend the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida in August.

I will be there. I only need to register for the convention sessions, right?

We should all meet before the convention and strategize. This is our LAST stand and our LAST chance to get delegates.

We definitely need to have a meeting or two. Name the time and place and I will be there.

Uh, didn't someone try that a month ago and nobody showed up?

In 2008 we met first on Friday night during hospitality time and then on Saturday outside the convention room before the business session and talked about what we were going to do. Gunny was one of the leaders, along with aclove and a few others. I was the guy drafted into writing and introducing a motion to throw out Linda Daves' establishment slate of delegates. Gunny introduced a motion to put repealing the income tax into the platform.

It was actually BJ Lawson who introduced the motion to repeal the income tax.

I'll be there too. I registered me and my wife this morning.

I have to stay until Sunday. I'm now a State Executive Committee member.

I think it would be a good idea for everyone to meet Friday morning and hold an official caucus for whom we support as the Paul portion of the at-large slate. Remember how 2008 went... The party kept us hanging until just an hour or so before the vote. We did not know who OUR OWN delegates were going to be! The explanation Linda told the whole convention was "You all could not make your minds up, and there were so many people who wanted to go". Do not let the Central Committee re-use this excuse.

Which package did everyone purchase? Is it the "Convention Session" only for $35? Did anyone book their hotels yet? Do we have to be there all 3 days?

Unless you're a Central Committee (they hold a formal meeting on Friday) or ExecComm member (they hold a formal meeting on Sunday morning), in my opinion the only important stuff is the Business Session on Saturday afternoon (note: I do NOT consider the Platform to be "important stuff" based on the TARP hypocrisy in 2008; YMMV). However the "Convention Session $35" package will get you the Friday and Saturday "General Sessions" and the Saturday "Breakout Sessions" in addition to the Business Session.

As best I remember, the "Business Session" is where the delegates and national committeeman/committeewoman were selected and the "General Sessions" were mostly rules and platform. If someone with an agenda from 2008 or a better memory than I cares to amplify or correct, please feel free.

The hospitality suites are hosted Friday night; in 2008 we used these to meet up, strategize, and score free booze 'n' munchies. I see no reason to pay $75 for a midgrade chain-hotel dinner just to have Donald Trump's speech make you lose it.

The advertised NCGOP hotel rate of $132 is $7/night better than I've seen on Orbitz/Expedia/etc.

Anyone have any rumors on the Saturday speakers? In 2008 we used the time where the bluebloods & bluehairs were having lunch with Huckabee to do our final strategizing.

first ill be going to our district convention on saturday the 28th. hopefully ill be a delegate to the state convention

If you can only be there for one day, Saturday is the main event. Friday is an interesting warm-up though, so I have always gone to both.

I suggest that we have a meeting somewhere near the convention after 11:00 AM, that way everyone who is going to the Convention and who wants to make it to a meeting will be there, since registration for the convention ends at 11.

Do we really want to wait till the last minute to meet? We have the whole of May..why can't we organize a get-together?

The first hour of the convention is not any big deal.
  • Invocation
  • Pledge of allegence
  • Opening remarks by the chair
  • Recognize the elected officials present
  • Recognize the candidates present
  • Credentials report.
  • "Oh - there are additional delegates wishing to be seated? Please see the credentials committee... The convention will be at ease..."
There is definately time to meet and talk between the close of registration, and the opening of the convention. The mall is right across the parking lot from the convention center. If we don't want to hang out in the lobby, we can meet at the food court there.

I just heard that the rules for the convention will be voted on Friday instead of Saturday - so it's critical that Paul supporters get there for the votes on Friday.

Can anyone confirm this?
