Who Voted?

Voted last week

My wife and I voted last week at CPCC...no line, the polling people were obviously bored, but man, it felt good to select Ron Paul and see his name print up on the paper record. Of course, I couldn't KEEP a copy, and I made sure to ask, but to no avail. I did some poll work on Saturday at the South County Regional Library in Charlotte, and the turnout was almost entirely Dem. Hopefully we'll have a boost similar to PA.

See you Charlotte RP people on the Revolution trail!

Worked by day job until 5, then decided to go to my polling place to hand out slimjims. (I voted two weeks ago, not knowing when the baby was coming). Anyway, in my precinct in Charlotte that leans Republican (7 to 5), Democrats were outnumbering Republicans 5 to 1.

I did have 2 people come up to me and say "RON PAUL - YOU GOT MY VOTE!"

I convinced 4 others (Huckabee and Keyes voters) to vote for Paul.

Only one nasty woman who refused the slimjim, one nasty old guy who called Paul a "Democrat" and another woman who proudly stated she liked John McCain.

Other Republicans took the slimjims and seemed to be reading them.

Not bad for 1 1/2 hours of work...

I think some precincts in the southern tip of Mecklenburg county might actually vote a minority for McCain, verusus Paul + Huck... Some of them voted for Ken Gjertsen against McCrory in the mayoral primary last year. (IE, a challenge from the right against a moderate Republican.)

I stood at my polling place most of the day today (just went home to take care of the puppy and then back at it) I handed out over 100 slim jims, went through the last of the tax and worked real close to finishing off the Veterans. I stressed the patriotic/veteran/tax angle, the fact that he was still in the race (I think I referred to him as the "Running Man" a few times)--there were a few averted eyes in the early hours, but as the day went on things went better. We ended up with 9 votes in our precinct for RP. So, besides the hubby and myself and two people I know voted for him, 5 other people voted RP. Wish it had been more, but the turn out was right at 700 so, do the math.

I'll be looking to send stuff to the next primary, WV right?

One thing, just standing there, watching and talking to people today, those of us who actually went out there and spent the time today were appreciated by all of the others who did the same. It didn't matter who you were for, you were for something and you were willing to put out the effort for it. The "girls" actually were a little embarassed about how I was "shunned" early in the day and asked good questions about Ron Paul and what he stood for. There was common ground-mostly on taxes and supporting our veterans and no war without an act of congress. (BTW--I was the only repub there, even for the house/judge/council seats--NO repubs at all-- and it was noticed and commented on by several voters....)

The work and effort to support a candidate is truly a labor of love. That's something I think we can work on in the future, passing that enthusiasm on to others, educating anyone who will listen about the election process, how important it is to know the issues and who and what you are voting for. (Much less being registered to vote and voting)

I like the "voter guide" idea. I almost printed out the updated version of the SD comparison guide for the presidential candidates last night. I think the other thing is to make sure we've got somebody at as many of the pcts as possible, with a selection of lit for all of the candidates we support. I should have asked for handouts from Judge Moore and had stuff for Bob Orr et al. I promise you this, we will be better prepared for the next election.
