Who Started The Modern Day Tea Party Movement? (video)

I call for counter-rev against Warmongers! "Original Tea Party", "Boston Tea Party", "Old Right Tea Party" or "Tea Party for Peace" would be good names... Robert Taft and peace!! Old conservatism... Ron Paul would be remembered as a man who brought anti-intervionism(=free markets and peace) back to the conservatism.

"America First". "Free Trade = Only Foreign Policy".

They deserve some credit I guess however that was a 9/11 truth tea party which has nothing to do with the modern day tea party.
It has everything to do with the modern day tea party. There wouldn't even be one if not for the truthers.

The modern day TP is a continuation of the one started in 2007 by RP supporters and has RP's limited government message at it's core
.

The 2007 Tea Party was a continuation of the 2006 Tea Party. The 2007 Tea Party at Faneuil Hall WAS the 2nd annual Tea Party organized by the truthers. Of course it changed it's format somewhat since truthers embraced RP after he announced his bid for Presidency in 2007 and wanted to include non-truthers in their support for RP.

Like it or not....the roots of the Tea Party are with the Truther community. RP became it's figurehead in 2007 because he supported policies that would take down the real people behind 9/11.

Whoever edits the page should be someone with a strong multi-year wikipedia account. Otherwise the page is just going to get locked.

The status quo knows how much that page shapes public opinion or it would be much more accurate.

It seems to me on Wikipedia edits to delicate subjects like this the best way is to first broach the subject on the article's discussion page. If you can form a consensus there first the edit will go up with no problem.

For example, you could say something like: "Since the article gives credit to Ron Paul as the "intellectual godfather" of the movement, wouldn't it be appropriate to have his photo on the page somewhere? If not, then how does it improve the article for Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich, who are not Tea Party founders, to have their photos featured?"

Or something like: "I notice the article is weak on its' coverage of the early history of the movement. Here are references to some articles from that time period. Does anybody have any ideas on how we can improve the early history section with these?"

Many of the news stories mentioned in this thread would be solid references if a linkable transcript or companion story can be found.

Always talk about edits in terms of "improving the article."

If nothing else you start a dialog on the subject. Keep in mind some visitors looking for information read not just the article but also the discussion page (I do).

I'm not an experienced Wikipedia editor, but I've spent a lot of time reading there, and have observed how things work.

Great post, and welcome to the forums!

I loved the Tea Party Money bomb but now that Palin and Bachmann have hijacked the name, to me its almost more of a liability. I was proud to be a part of the original but now I dont associate with it at all.

That's what I thought, too. The socon/warmonger Republicans hijacked the tea party and now people think it's all about fruitcakes like Bachmann and Palin. Is it worth taking back? It IS ours, after all, we put a lot of work into it.

His name should be in the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article, in my opinion. If not that, his name should at least be the first one mentioned; not at the end of a list of four people.

There's no doubt that that page gets a ton of traffic.

Absolutely, but of course Wikipedia is biased.

Most definitely! The Wikipedia editors who frequent the tp pages are successfully using the pages to support their personal opinions. That helps incorrectly establish those opinions as facts to people that don't know otherwise.

I started an Article Photos section on the Tea Party Movement discussion page to point out the fact that there weren't any RP or 07' TP photos. After some discussion suddenly a Ron Paul photo showed up on the page! You're right it pays to use the discussion page first.

Now I'm trying to get the 07' TP protests some coverage on the Tea Party Protests wiki(I started as user 76.20.32.102 before creating an account as JustaJason). I finally got some agreement on the discussion page that the 07' protests should be included. Now I just need someone with better wiki skills to actually add some content or contribute to the discussion. Any takers?

If they allow video, they might want to take a look at Rand Paul at Faneiul Hall 12/16/07 .

It's hard to dispute that Rand is tea party. And here he was sounding like Rand Paul, talking about the founders, at a tea party in 2007.
