I have read that Patterson has ties to the Republican Liberty Caucus, but I don't want to vote on that alone. Thoughts?

There is a real chance of moving TX in the correct direction in this election.

Personally, I'd ignore the Texas Governor race. Abbott will be "fine". The Lt. Gov has too much power/influence on state affairs. He'd manage the state budget for example.

I don't agree with Ron Paul on his endorsement of Jerry Patterson. Patterson is a decent guy, but it seems like the endorsement was based upon Paul's friendship with Patterson instead of Patterson's stand on the issues. Patterson is rock solid on guns, but strays a little from the liberty line on other issues. He would be a great Lt Gov, but I think that Patrick would be better. It is close, but Patrick gets my vote.

Great, I just got used to the idea of visiting this ape house after the Cuccinelli endorsement unequivocally blew up in Ron's face, and here we go again.

Did Patterson ever support laws that criminalize oral sex between married couples, even after the US Supreme Court demanded they be repealed?

Suffice it to say, Ron Paul is not a whole lot better at making endorsements than his son.

Thank you for your input, could you give me some reasons why you think Patrick is better? Here is something from Pattersons page, that makes me think Patrick is not so good, your thoughts?
"Dan Patrick joint-authored SB 767 with Wendy Davis, a bill that would require the state to collect your DNA if you commit a Class B misdemeanor. This bill was stopped on the Senate floor by conservatives. Click "like" and share this post if you agree - DNA collection by the state isn't conservative. Not even close." https://www.facebook.com/Patterson4TX

I really am interested in your opinion. and welcome to the Forums! :D

-Patterson's only mention of non-state-cartel schooling is to increase accountability of charter schools, and streamline the process of shutting them down.
FAIL.

-Transportation: his solution to their highway construction funds shortfalls is to CREATE A VEHICLE SALES TAX.
FAIL.
No mention of alternatives, such as finding out what inhibits mass transit and getting rid of those inhibitions.
FAIL.

-Water: apparently he thinks this is the biggest problem Texas faces, but there is no mention of the fact that federal controls over Texas' water is utterly unconstitutional and Texas has every right to ignore them.
FAIL.

-Medicine: just a page of FAIL.

-Immigration: I know the "liberty" movement is generally (and erroneously) opposed to freedom of movement, so he should actually get good marks for this... except he believes in a guest worker program, so it's probably just more fail.

-Property Rights: he apparently believes that property rights are all about mineral and oil prospecting.
FAIL.

If I was to judge the man by what he himself is saying, I would say "Oh look, a rank-and-file Republican is running for office. Whoopedy dee."

Patterson is better than the other two. But I worry that he will be closed to compromise. You have to be slightly bi-partisan as a successful Lt. Governor. Other positions in the state do not matter with this, but this is important if you'll be an active presider of the Senate.

I'm voting for Patterson. Patrick's support for collecting DNA makes him a NO WAY IN HELL.

Patrick is good on immigration and was smart enough to pick a fight with Castro. It only helps with GOP voters to have an open borders, gun grabbing, affirmative action politician attacking you in a GOP primary.

I think Patterson's style doesn't suit the low information Texas GOP primary voters who elect loud mouth RINOs like Rick Perry.

Even if Patrick is terrible on one issue or bill Id rather get rid of the incumbent. Id elect Linda Vega if I had to, just to get rid of Cornyn out of leadership.

To be quite frank, I don't see anything wrong in endorsing your friend even if your political views differ. I have a moderate-liberal leaning friend who's pretty engaged in politics and I sort of consider him my political rival or opposite. I would have no problem endorsing him tbh. Texas politics seems awful because there aren't that many good candidates that are electable.

I'll cast an empty ballot in the runoff. I know some that are backing Patrick, and some that are backing Dewhurst.
