Mitt Romney Who are Romney's supporters? And why?

I don't think I've ever met a single Romney supporter who had even half of the passion that supporters of Ron Paul have. I feel like a majority of his supporters are sheep who see that he is currently doing well and just keep voting for the front runner. In nearly all ways, Romney is no different than the other non-Ron Paul candidates running. And in the few areas he does differ, they're negatives (Liberal record, Bain, etc).

When I was watching CNN during the Iowa and NH votes, I think I saw a statistic saying to 60ish% of the people that electability was their deciding factor. If that's the case, do these people not understand or just not know that Ron Paul gets the most support from Independents and Democrats? A majority of Conservatives may not be supporting Ron Paul right now...but if it were a choice between Ron Paul and Obama...I can say with absolute certainty that Ron Paul would get the Republican vote, along with a strong number of Independents and Democrats like myself.

Romney on the other hand would get the same Conservative support Ron Paul would, but a significantly less number of non-Republicans. It really doesn't seem to hard to explain this to people. So if electability is the main issue standing in Ron Paul's way, can't they hammer home these simple to understand facts?

He doesn't have many fans or even 'supporters', he has voters. Why? Because they all think he is best to beat Obama. That is the absolute number one concern of Republican rank and file voters....much more important than values to them.

While I admit Romney does best versus Obama, Ron is basically doing the same. In the latest CBS National Poll, Romney beats Obama by 2, Paul trails Obama by 1...margin of error is 3. So, they are both statistically tied, and considering margin of error, they are doing the exact same against Obama. Paul does better with independents than anybody else (including Romney and Obama too). If Paul were to get the nominee, many of the Republicans in the polls that say they are unsure, will come to Paul.....so Paul's numbers are underestimated. In the end, there is no way the rank and file members go to Obama. They have so much disdain, they would end up going for Paul. I think Ron could beat Obama 5-7 points nationally in the popular vote.

15 points is pretty steep....I think the last time someone won by that much was Reagan over Mondale. Reagan won by 18 points nationally.

Obama with a track record is a horrible candidate, he's "hold-your-nose" already even for the most fervent supporters. Try it, try to get one to put out a positive case for voting for him. I can pretty much guarantee it will boil down to "he's not a Republican". I am getting that kind of response very often. And a hell of a lot of Democrats - the very large crowd of folks that got thrown under the bus of Obama's ambition - are already looking at Ron Paul seriously.

I agree with you. The way Ron would siphon off his independent support from 2008 and the youth support, would put a HUGE dent in Obama's voting base. He will have nearly a billion to spend though....

You have no idea. I literally almost lost it on an obama supporter. I always try to make it clear to people that republicans and democrats are two sides of the same coin: big government, more wars, less individual liberty, central banking, etc. Yet, 9 times out of 10 I am called a conspiracy theorist or called ignorant. Mind you both Obama and Romney supporters are practically the same in their thinking. It's all apart of this divide and conquer strategy. To republicans it's all about "who can beat Obama". We need to sell people that Ron Paul has the biggest contrast from Obama and gets the support of independents, young voters, active military, and democrats. It's frustrating as hell, believe me. But just keep fighting, the message of liberty resonates and our supports make the best efforts and get involved.

Just ask them to name the issues they care about and what their position is, take score Paul vs. their candidate, show them the tally. Let them score it themselves if they can't believe the result.

This technique works with people of all ideologies or no ideology. Not always right away but the key is to just get people thinking in a direction that will lead them outside the box. Sometimes it can be months later before they put two and two together, so don't get frustrated.

Try to put together an ideology other than straight-up fascism against which Paul doesn't score better than Obamaromney. Can't be done. Even Communists, when you look at the actual record, get a better deal under Paul than Obama. Obama is basically the guy in charge of selling us out to banks and distracting us with circuses while this all goes on. There's nobody without a direct financial interest who gets better from Obama under any coherent value system.

He's also among the most vulnerable IMO, with many notable liabilities that'll play right into Obama's hands this election:

1) Upcoming “racist Mormon church” narrative.
2) Upcoming “Wall St. corporate raider” narrative.
3) Liberal governing record in MA will turn off conservative voters.
4) RomneyCare… ’nuff said. Will look extremely hypocritical.
5) Protested in favor of the draft, yet got himself a deferment.
6) Lacks charisma, has weak force of personality.

Watching Romney speak is like watching the numerous movies and tv shows where some king, millionaire, etc for some reason becomes a common person and has to interact in the 'real' world.

You don't go from an extremely free country to what we have today w/o the majority of Humans being what they are. People who would vote for somebody like Ron Paul are the exception.

They're mostly older white people. They probably don't frequent the internet very much. I'd say they are mostly the upper middle class and wealthy which is a large portion or America.
