No. It *should* be unimportant, but a few centuries of history provide evidence to the contrary.
Perhaps it is just my dim, realist view on the humans in general, but the dissolution of race, class, culture or any other buzzword that can be paired with the term "warfare" will never, ever go away until the world exists in a Utopian society.
Until we have Utopia and are all shiny happy people holding hands, the best we can do is to promote our freedom movement and demonstrate that all our "races/cultures/classes" can come together in this pursuit of liberty.
At that point, it will be much easier to educate that those that the aforementioned items can be seen as artificial constructs that serve only to divide well-meaning folks.
Since we all know that a Utopian society will never exist, the best we can do is understand race issues, and work against them the best way we know how. To me, that is spreading our message of freedom and liberty.
But if people refuse to admit perceived racial differences exist, it could serve to bite you in the rear-end if you find yourself on the short-end of a stick at some point.
