I agree with all the people who stated that we are all the same race. I don't know the science stuff you all have studied, but it is abundantly clear to me.
That being said, I am also one who has lived in many varying areas like a tiny town, an uber-conservative city, Philly and NYC.
Though separate races don't exist, a great many people are inherently racist based on geographical differences from where people have migrated over the past few hundred years.
It sucks, but it is the truth as I have seen it. It serves to distance potential bonds between varying groups, but also strengthens bonds between those share certain characteristics.
I don't even use the term "racist" in a derogatory sense. I know a lot of very nice ones actually. Many lovely ladies who'd never marry me because I am a white anglo-saxon protestant (another arbitrary divider unfortunately) man. It is just programmed into their brains that they must marry a certain type of guy. They don't "hate" me. All too often "hate" and "racist" are mistakenly used concurrently (they certainly do occur concurrently, but not 100% of the time), and in fact these ladies are friends who love me as I love them.
In a utopian world, we could break every single person loose from these artificial constructs, but as one of those realists we all despise, I don't see that happening. In fact, as more people point fingers at other groups for their problems, it will only serve to consolidate these pre-conceived notions.
Instead of trying to change peoples' minds on this one, I elect to respect their point of view and strengthen friendship through other means.
Racist -- just another stupid term to carve us up further than we already are.
