Whistleblower of NSA spying reveals himself

One of the questions Greenwald asked is "would the information be valuable to other governments" (paraphrased)? Of course it would be interesting to them. Knowing who talks to who on the phone is very valuable information from a political perspective. Which is the same reason that it is a power that is destined to be abused by any government. The IRS has been used for political purposes. No number of talking heads and former officials that are paraded on the Sunday morning talk shows can propagandize away the fact that this type of power will be abused. Denials from professional liars are not convincing.

He has a GF, not a wife. He lied to her before he split.

Was just looking at some HK newspapers, only one of them mention PRISM and in international news. None mentioned the leaker is living in HK. I have to wonder if he is actually in HK...

Oh damn... that makes it harder... maybe his parents then. Only Greenwald and the journalists who have his contacts can set it up and make sure the $$$ goes his way.

Of course i'm sure the govt would try and shut it down too .

I found it very interesting that he said he could tap anyone, even the president if he knew his private e-mail....

Can you imagine being a fly on the wall in Bernanke's office?

How about having all the calls and e-mails that came out of Israels NYC embassy the month before 9/11?

I can't stop watching that interview. This man is restoring my faith in humanity.

It's pretty smart of him to come out with his side of the story before our government gets a chance to demonize him with their propaganda machine.

As to connections - probably the filmmaker.

They said they did several hours of tape, I expect there is a lot more yet to be released.

For all those wanting to help him financially, I'd like to point out 2 things: He was making 200K a year. He's doing pretty well. Secondly, he's no doubt by now been declared a "terrorist", and I'm sure you all know what the penalties are for providing material support to "terrorists" is...

edit, although, if he is at a defense contractor, he may well have signed contracts on confidentiality he isn't remembering at the moment. I don't know if he learned about this there or somewhere else, though. This is such a huge story though that we all knew from other things media ignored, that maybe as with Ellsberg, it will be too politically toxic to go after him

He absolutely violated contracts with his employer. That is why there was risk involved, that is why he is going to prison, that is why he is such a hero.

This will be a hell of a legal battle. Pretty much all whistle blowers are violating employment agreements. That is a pretty standard situation. It's a conflict between that and whistleblower protection laws.

Public opinion and Congress will have some say in this case. He may have been better off testifying before Congress as a whistleblower. No doubt he looked at his options though. He doesn't seem the type to act without some forethought.

saying he had access to anyone private e-mails...hmmm, wondering if he kept any important emails from very important people before he blew the whistle as insurance?

Name somebody who can be legitimately called a hero who did not risk his life, liberty or property in defense of something he deems greater than his personal life liberty or property.
I was more referring to the people who will come forward and say that they don't agree with him and that he should go to prison because he violated a contract. I saw a few posts stating as much referring to Bradley Manning.

He took the only approach he could...public disclosure. There'd be no hiding from this group.
My heart weeps for my country.

Q: How to you feel now, almost a week after the first leak?

A: "I think the sense of outrage that has been expressed is justified. It has given me hope that, no matter what happens to me, the outcome will be positive for America. I do not expect to see home again, though that is what I want."

damn!

I'm not sure if a contract that says "you shall not report crimes witnessed during the course of your employment" is a valid contract.

I was just following orders, man!

Seriously, we should encourage more lovers of liberty inside the government to come forward and tell their stories.
