You can get a DNA test done. Other people who have had the test done then could be compared to yours and you could trace other peoples ancestors who had DNA matches with yourself. That's of course suggesting that the other people have good records of their ancestors.

I've personally considered it but have never done it. My main surnames ancestor record gets a litttle weird around 1850. I kind of think my great-great grandfather may have been a hidden teen pregnancy. A DNA test could give strong evidence whether or not that may be true. Like I said though I'd have to count on people with better historical records having taken a DNA test.

Britain is actually a reference to the island that encompasses Scotland, Wales, and England. Ireland, even the northern, isn't technically British. You might have meant 1/2 English, but Irish isn't British.

Yes, it is a British Isle.

Since that isn't what you wanted to know, most of my dead relatives came from Spain and France, and mingled back and forth across the border for awhile before thinking it would be a great idea to take their riches and invest in sugarcane fields/processing in the Caribbean. That's where I probably picked up the bit of Taino blood.

My mom's grandparents were Austrian Jewish refugees who arrived at Ellis Island sometime in the 1910's and lived in Manhattan until my grandfather incurred a sizable gambling debt from the mafia and had to move his family (including my mom, who was just a kid at the time) to the South.

As far as I've been able to tell, my dad's folks have been mostly Protestants who lived in the U.S. since at least as far back as the War Between the States. But their ethnic history included English, Irish, German, Cherokee, and Seminole.

My dad's family is mostly German - his mom's side is Pennsylvania Dutch, but his dad's side is somewhat ambiguous, as my paternal grandfather was adopted and refuses to talk about what happened. I think my grandfather was born out of wedlock, and his mom's family decided to take him in. It is a very confusing story and I'm sure I won't ever get to know fully what happened. But anyway, it results in my last name... not really being my last name, because my grandfather took his adopted family's last name. I find this somewhat annoying because I am genuinely curious about my roots. I found a few pictures of my older relatives, and I'm glad I'm related to this cool guy :

My maternal grandfather's family is mostly PA Dutch and Italian, while my maternal grandmother's ancestry is mostly Irish. I guess I'm an amalgamation of all sorts of different ethnic groups, which is awesome.
