When is the Secret Service going to start protecting Ron Paul due to crowd size??

Just wondering.

Isn't it *mandatory* for presidential candidates when crowds start reaching huge numbers?
At least, that's what I heard when they started doing it for Romney..

Ahh, well you see - that'd be logical. However since they already have declared that Ron has no real chances of winning, there's no perceived value to protect such an individual.

You have a point because if the Secret Service started showing up to protect Dr. Paul, I believe it would add a certain amount of credibility to his campaign.

I dont think Ron Paul would accept it or at least not yet =P. He will definitely need it when he becomes our president. Probably a lot of enemies that might want to eliminate Paul. He needs the best and most trustworthy guys to gaurd him as pontus

Ron Paul will be the first President to not have Secret Service. This question was posed in an email maybe in 08 that was replied to by Carol Paul. They have a private security company in mind that they feel is better service for better price. They don't want taxpayer funded protection. She also wrote that Rand had suggested they take the secret service money and then use it to buy gold, then sell the gold and return the money to the treasury having made a profit.

Are we sure we want government agents protecting Dr. Paul? The same government agents that prosecute counterfeiting because it upsets the Federal Reserve? The same Federal Reserve that hates Ron Paul?

I think we are all concerned for Ron when he gets into office. He needs as much protection as he can get. Honestly, I dont mind paying extra to protect Ron. Have both secret service and private security to provide 2 layers of security. I think most of us would take a bullet for Ron and/or won't submit to bribes.

There's somewhat of a dearth of Varangians these days.

Why not private security? I actually believe that Paul is the only presidential candidate that could actually raise an army if he requested.

Just imagine grinch or mittens saying "Everyone meet me here with your rifles." They'd be there alone, just like they are at their appearances. If Paul wants security, he should hire it himself.

ROFL. True.

If he is getting paid only $40k, how is he going to pay for it? From his savings? Paying for security would eat up his savings VERY quickly.

last election, when I didn't know all you fine people and was just learning about Ron Paul, I read that he was one of three primary candidates on the GOP side that actually qualified for secret service due to their ranking system for risk, but he didn't ask for it. He has security. If he wants secret service, I'm sure he'll as for it, but he might not want it.

Campaign donations can't go toward campaign security?

I bet there are many qualified people on this forum that would do it for meals paid anyway, or just for a ride.
