Given how many posts we have, this has probably been covered, but I was wondering when the $2,300 contribution limit resets. So for folks who maxed out on 11/5 or 12/15, does the new year mean they can do it again?

I think I heard that the general election, as opposed to the primary, was the trigger, but I also thought there was some discussion that the early primary season this year could allow contributions in both years.

I think it is after the primaries are done. Personally, I think RP needs to have fund rasing events, dinners etc... This way people who have maxed out can give more if they have it.

You can give the $2,300 NOW. Just label it for General Election.

All the other candidates have accepted a lot of general election money.

You can donate 2,300 in the Republican Primary like I did. After the Republican convention, you can donate again to the limit of 2,300 dollars for the Presidential election.

just tell your friend to donate and then accidentally lose the same amount in their house.

jk

Under the McCain-Feingold Act, an individual may contribute a maximum of $2,300 to a candidate for a primary election, and a maximum of $2,300 to a candidate for a general election. If an individual gives $4,600 to a candidate, that candidate may not spend the $2,300 allocated to the general election, unless they win the primary and go on to the general election. If they lose the primary and/or drop out, the candidate must refund the $2,300 that was given for the general election. A lot of the candidates use the money donated to the general campaign to boost their fundrasing numbers that they report to the media, when in reality what they can spend in the primary is much lower.

People who have maxed out can pay a friends rent or buy something from that friend, so that the friend can donate his own money to RP, btw, quite legally.

I've told several maxed out supporters that. :)

I will gladly accept anyone that wants to pay my mortgage this month. :)
