So now that the Grinch is going to drop out and Romney has declared victory, what happens to the debate in Texas? I am praying to God that Texas GOP demands Romney show up and debate Ron Paul and it is a 1 on 1 Romney vs. Paul debate on Paul's home turf... I am praying to God that Texas stands up to Romney and demands their right to be a part of the Republican process!! If the Texas GOP takes a stand, this "victory" speech Romney gave tonight could go down as one of the biggest political blunders in American history. The Dean Scream x 1000... So tell me RPF, what's happening with the Texas debate now?

There isn't going to be a debate in TX and there never was going to be one. If you think Mitt Romney would ever agree to this than you are high as a kite. I don't care how much the GOP whines about it, Mitt has nothing to gain by debating Ron Paul.

I don't know who the person is that started this rumor but they are definitely eating crow right now.

The last chance for a debate was Georgia in March. It was canceled by CNN after Romney and Paul declined the invitation.

A debate in Gingrich's home turf would have minimalized Paul and made Gingrich a rock star. Remember the last South Carolina debate and how well it worked out for the grinch?

To protect Romney. There is no other plausible explanation.

that is utter rot. Ron had just had a fantastic debate and super Tuesday was coming. The debate was in Georgia, and going there with travel in the middle of the pre Super Tuesday crunch made no sense. He had just called Santorum fake and it went over really well. He had something to lose. He does NOT always surge after a debate, with GOP base and it wasn't like now with a long gap, there had been tons of debates and there had JUST been a really good one.

Against that, Gingrich wanted to use it to 'come back' and Romney and Paul AND Santorum didn't want to do it in Gingrich's state. Everyone knew he'd win Georgia.

If Ron was going to 'protect' Romney, he wouldn't be showing him up, now, in delegate contests.

Romney has nothing to gain from such a debate. He wont do it. Plain and Simple !

What if Ron Paul did a 1 week TV tour, in every speech, every radio interview, every television interview he challenged Romney 1 on 1 and called him out for declaring victory before the race was over? It's like if the Lakers were up by 20 in the 3rd Quarter and decided to just walk off the court and declare themselves the winners!

Newt said he would hound Obama for debates, but now he isn't even doing a good job challenging Romney.

Well... no, that isn't a good comparison. As far as Romney/the media/a lot of the average voters are concerned this is like the Tigers are up in the middle of the ninth and they're at home (I.e., the game is actually over. Go Detroit, by the way). Romney just doesn't have any real reason to debate- it' actually hurt him to do so because it would make him look weak.

I agree with Paulistinian. What if he could get onto Fox or CNN for just a regular interview and then call him out? It would spread like wildfire.

Ron should play his 'buddy card' with Romney and plead with him to have the debate.

"Aw come-on Roms, can't ya just help a buddy out and have a debate over our political views on national television just this one last time, pretty please?!"

I sometimes fantasize that, since they are friendly to each other, Ron has gotten into Romney's head and got him to secretly work with us. Through this fantasy, Romney would take all the money and publicity from the bankers and media, essentially tying all of that effort by the establishment up in his campaign, then when he gets the nomination he quickly makes his stance as a liberty candidate. With Flip-floppin'-Romney, anything could happen.:o

I like the way you think and it is B.A., but I don't think it's feasable, unless Ron steps it up big time in his home state.

I'm in Pennsylvania, and other than his rallies, I din't hear a whole lot. And especially not from the media.

You require two people for a debate. Romney won't attend. Hence, no debate. This a bad thing? I can't say it is. People think Romney won. It means we can still get out the vote.
