what's going to happen when 1.2 million lose their job benefits before christmas?

No way will congress authorize the payments with the republican surge in congress.

NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN, just remember the jim bunning incident

as much as the republican talk the the talk, in the end they will play along,

EDIT: i didn't read your link, so don't pms like some other guy

Not going to happen

Spineless politicians are going to retroactively pay 99'ers benes in lame duck. Not only will they have a check but a nice retroactive one for XMAS! Probably an extra 26 weeks to make em 125'ers.

I couldn't read the article after this statement:

"It's also a time when the economy, especially the retail sector, is counting on consumer spending -- supported in part by unemployment benefits -- to maintain the recovery."

Uncle Sam Clause?

re:dean.engelhardt so true! Makes you wanna puke. And psi2941 your right, they don't have the balls. I was getting sucked in by the Huffingtonpost, I have to stop reading that pathetic website. Watching Arianna in an interview make me fume.

This is going to happen...

I was in the field yesterday at a job site and heard one of the laborers say "It was easier not working".

As i been saying over and over again first step for the unemployment to recover is ending the extension of jobless benefits.

Me too. If you're unemployed you shouldn't be buying christmas presents...

The politicians won't be able to resist. I mean how could someone do this during christmas? Expect the usual bull**** and at least a 3 month extension.

Elaborate please.

My guess on his point?: Why subsidize and incentivize not working?

At this point I would think that reducing such programs by 10% PER MONTH is a appropriate weening method. It's firm, fair and get's the job done to a significantly level within a year.

Not in the middle of a crisis, especially one which is instilling panic in the masses. Something like that makes more sense during "good" economic times. JMHO.

Studies have proven that people usually find jobs only the month before or after the job benefits expire.

Till you give an incentive for people to change crisis will continue. There is reason why politicians love welfare since it keeps the inept in office.
