What's for dinner?

First Thanksgiving today. Mom likes to spend Thanksgiving Day in casinos with the Injuns so she's having her party a day early.

Turkey
Potato salad (I dunno why she chose to do nasty potato salad instead of delicious mashed potatoes)
Dressing - There are two kinds of people in the world. Dressing people and stuffing people. Stuffing people are weird.
Groovy Gravy
Creamed Corn
Greasy Green Beans
Those dinner rolls with the three lines on top - excellent for sopping up groovy gravy

For dessert
Sweet Potato Pie - There are two kinds of people in the world. Sweet Potato Pie People and Pumpkin Pie People. Choose wisely.
Pecan Pie
"French" Coconut Pie - She calls it French but I'm not sure it's really French. It's basically a just a butter and sugar pie with a little bit of coconut and a few eggs to holding it all together.

I'm bringing Mashed Potatoes, Deviled Eggs and some beer and wine. Not sure what other people are bringing.

Not cooking this year...just happy to have the day off.

Potato soup tonight

Thanksgiving Celebration is the Sugar-Coating of Brutal Genocide

Yes, lest it be [conveniently] forgotten, a truly gruesome history:

In 1637 near present day Groton, Connecticut, over 700 men, women and children of the Pequot Tribe had gathered for their annual Green Corn Festival which is our Thanksgiving celebration. In the predawn hours the sleeping Indians were surrounded by English and Dutch mercenaries who ordered them to come outside. Those who came out were shot or clubbed to death while the terrified women and children who huddled inside the longhouse were burned alive. The next day the governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony declared "A Day Of Thanksgiving" because 700 unarmed men, women and children had been murdered.
of the slaughter of Native Peoples! This account is just one of many examples:

'Cheered by their "victory", the brave colonists and their Indian allies attacked village after village. Women and children over 14 were sold into slavery while the rest were murdered. Boats loaded with a many as 500 slaves regularly left the ports of New England. Bounties were paid for Indian scalps to encourage as many deaths as possible.

Following an especially successful raid against the Pequot in what is now Stamford, Connecticut, the churches announced a second day of "thanksgiving" to celebrate victory over the heathen savages. During the feasting, the hacked off heads of Natives were kicked through the streets like soccer balls. Even the friendly Wampanoag did not escape the madness. Their chief was beheaded, and his head impaled on a pole in Plymouth, Massachusetts -- where it remained on display for 24 years.'

Many of the California fires are believed to have been started through the use of Directed Energy Weapons (DEWs).

Thanks to Trump, MANY MORE Americans may be Genocided by Directed Energy Weapons in 2019:

Almost finished preparing for Second Thanksgiving.

I'm taking
Creamed Corn (I make kick ass Creamed Corn:cool: Mr A literally cut the kernels off of 4 ears out of 30 and keeps saying how good his corn turned out. He's trying to troll me but it backfired when I agreed and told him he should do it from now on.)
Pecan Pies (We're a pecan pie eating people)
Ho Made Mac & Cheese
Heart attack Mushrooms - Alouette Garlic Cheese Stuffed Mushrooms topped with breadcrumbs and baked in a few sticks of butter. I only made them because I had a bunch of mushrooms that were going to go bad if I didn't use them for something.

My crazy ass sister in law told me she's bringing
egg rolls (What Thanksgiving Feast would be complete without egg rolls?)
some kind of nasty sounding curry (why?)
Her special gluten free, sugar free organic pumpkin pie that no one eats - not even her.

Her crazy ass daughter is bringing
Nasty ass weird Deviled Eggs - she's been know to season them with horseradish, curry paste (what is it with these people and curry?), sriracha, and herbs (particularly gross because the herbs are grown over her mother's septic tank leech field:nauseated:).

During the feasting, the hacked off heads of Natives were kicked through the streets like soccer balls.

Is this how the tradition of playing football with the family on Thanksgiving started?

I ate pecan pie and leftover Mac-n-cheese with Carolina Reaper hot sauce on it for dinner last night and my stomach is killing me this morning.

I'm going to have to eat simple today.

No turkey in the fridge.

Well, there's leftover turkey noodle soup, turkey broccoli and cheese soup, turkey squash and spring peas, turkey curry, and white chili (with a substitute meat). But I can't make you a turkey sandwich to save my life.

Stuffing people are weird.

You don't stuff your bird? Where do you put the parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme and that big bay leaf?

I've got news. Stuffing is one of my three secrets of moist white meat.

Nope. I mix it up in a pan with my stale cornbread. The only part of the turkey I care about are the giblets and drippings for my gravy.

This romaine lettuce drama is messing up my life. I went to Aldi to get my tubs of lettuce mix (Mr A calls them yard clippings) and they had pulled them all from the shelf.:eek::eek: I don't like iceberg salad (unless it's in Grandma salad) and don't even get me started on that dumb ass salad wedge restaurants try to sell. I think that's a Yankee recipe. I ended up just buying the iceberg and I'm fixin' a Grandma salad tonight.

Recipe for Grandma salad
iceberg lettuce
tomatoes
red onions
boiled egg
cornbread - real cornbread, not Yankee cake
fatback - save grease for the dressing

directions

crumble up cornbread in a bowl
put veg on top
fry up fatback and pour hot grease over salad
mix up
enjoy
I also like to nibble on the fatback.

You're scared of turkey drippings in your bread, but you're brave enough to...

Must be a Georgia thang.

I'm not scared of drippings. As I've demonstrated, I'll eat drippings on just about anything. Honestly, I've never even seen a turkey with ass stuffing, IRL. Also, dressing is different than stuffing. I think dressing is more of a Southern thing.

From an article in Southern Living...

Using Google Correlate, it’s easy to see that the top states searching for dressing recipes and those searching for stuffing recipes, don’t overlap. The top state searching for dressing recipes is Mississippi, closely followed by Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Georgia. But the map for stuffing shows that Northern states like Maine, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Montana are the biggest searchers. In fact, Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana barely search for the term at all.

I also think Grandma Salad is just a family recipe. My mom doesn't have many recipes that don't call for cornbread and fatback.:tears:

I've always suspected most people don't know the difference, and just use the word they're most familiar with. That seems to confirm it.

Actually, I pretty much always make stussing (or is it dreffing?). I make more than I can fit in the bird, and when I have some drippings to work with, I put the rest in the old pyrex casserole. The stuffing comes out soft and maybe too moist, the dressing comes out a mite too crouton-like. But when I mix them together, the compliments flow like eggnog.

Fried ham sandwich with mustardmayo and some salad.

Don't feel like cooking a lot tonight. Already had a cooked breakfast, with champagne, croissants, eggs many ways and some good cured and fried meat/French cheese with 2 different sourdough breads. And good coffee of course. Started my day well. Needless to say, I skipped lunch. Starting te become a little fat.

Just finished putting a giant pot of Pasta e Fagioli on to simmer: pinto beans, ditalini, crushed tomatoes, pancetta, fresh: rosemary, thyme, sage, parsley, some carrots, white onion, garlic, chicken and beef bone broth.

I am going with toasted Ham & cheese tonight too , maybe throw a slice of onion and a dab of mustard on there .
