Up until now I have mostly bought ASE's but the premium is starting to make me question whether or not I should keep getting them. What do you guys who invest in physical recommend I purchase in the future? 1oz, 10 oz, 100 oz bars? Are ASE's really worth the premium because of how well known they are? BTW all my ASE's are 2009/10.

Buy mainly 1 troy ounce rounds. And then maybe diversify with some 100 oz bars if you're feeling game. ;)

The premium is essentially paying for easily recognizable silver. The rounds are a good idea. If you think you have enough coins, big bars is also a good idea.

I prefer the ASEs because of their liquidity. I want to be able to buy/sell without any trouble. I also think it's a good idea to have some 'junk silver' pre-1964 coins.

Do you buy uncirculated or circulated ASEs? I like the idea of uncirculated because you know nobody has used chemicals to shine them or anything weird that damages the silver. But circulated = cheaper.

I would buy only silver dimes , 90% silver ( pre 1964 on ebay ) .

Main reasons--very low price--easy to sell--you know they are not silver plated--everyone knows what they are---if silver rockets to $100/oz , the dimes would be worth about $9/ea and easy to get rid of.

There is a lot of fake 1oz silver roundes out there.

yea, get junk silver, who knows when you have to barter with silver some day and your not going to pay 1 silver ounce for 1 bag of corn, wheat, etc... and how are they going to give your change back with a troy ounce?

I buy 10oz bars from www.bulliondirect.com

They don't charge that much over spot. I buy 10 oz of silver every two months and an ounce of gold every 6 months now.

You save the most money buying silver by the 100 oz though.

I have some ASEs and I just bought my first 10 oz bar from apmex. I like that they're stackable. :)

Are there a lot fake American Eagles out there or is the problem mainly with other random types?

Also, how do you know if the silver is fake?

I bought about 10 random silver rounds from Apmex and they look kinda sketchy; they seem to be different sizes..is Apmex a legit company?

Apmex is legit. They are well known. Shipping is expensive though.

The Chinese are coping everything , i have bought " silver 1 oz panda " coins on ebay that were exc fakes , i have always received my money back from the sellers because i told them i would turn them into ebay.

As the price of silver raises so will the number of fakes. The pre 1994 US dimes would be very hard to copy because they are so old and used.

New coins are very easy to stamp out for the Chinese copiers. American coin sellers will not go over every 1oz silver round they get to sell with a x10 mag loop.

I would add, one of the best things a silver/gold buyer can have is a digital scale.

I generally stick with Silver Eagles - mostly uncirculated. The biggest reason I stick with them is they're recognizable and not as likely to be counterfeit as rounds. I buy from a local coin dealer for anonymity and to support his local business.

^^^This. And make sure you know the proper weight for your various junk silver. Coinflation.com will help you with that. And keep in mind, if the junk silver is a little worn, it may be a little underweight, but usually not more than about 10% of the metal should be lost even on the most worn of coins that are still identifiable.

Good luck.
