Ideas:

Samuel Adams PAC (Positives: (1) was only elected at the state level, (2) was a staunch anti-Federalist, (3) was an integral part of the Boston Tea Party. Negatives: (1) We risk inviting a lawsuit from the beer people.)

Irate Minority PAC (Based on the following Samuel Adams quote: "It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds.")

Common Sense PAC (Based on the classic by Thomas Paine)

Army of Principles PAC (Based on the following Thomas Paine quote: "An army of principles can penetrate where an army of soldiers cannot.")

Also should note that once we settle on a name, perhaps we should rename the sub forum to reflect that ;)

Being based on the Founder and not the beer, the beer cannot copyright a Founder. If you had said "name it Samuel Adams because it's a great beer" then you'd have a point. But naming it Samuel Adams based on the history and biography of the actual man Samuel Adams, there is simply no grounds to sue for infringement. Just don't plan on the PAC producing a beer or beverage of any kind. ;)

I like Samuel Adams PAC

Off the top of my head:

Calvin Coolidge PAC

Monticello PAC

Mount Vernon PAC

They can FILE any kind of lawsuit they want....it doesn't mean that it's a well-founded lawsuit. The company has a history of suing anything they think is trying to use the man's name: http://www.blueoregon.com/2007/10/sam-adams-polit/

I'd just rather avoid the possibility.

That crap just makes me want to never buy Sam Adams beer again  In fact, I'd want to specifically use the Samuel Adams PAC to lure them into a lawsuit and countersue them for $10M to help fund the PAC. Those buggers don't own our Founding Father!!

I'm sorry, I know it's a headache that can be avoided, but when I see crap like that now I want Boston Beer Co PUNISHED for their frelling arrogance!

Yep, that's pretty much how I felt too. I really like Samuel Adams PAC because it embodies so much of what I want the thing to be about....but I just don't feel that it's worth it. :(

"Three millions of people, armed in the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us. Beside, sir, we shall not fight our battles alone. There is a just God who presides over the destinies of Nations, and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us." -- Patrick Henry

Destiny Of Nations PAC

Celestial Fire PAC

Labor to keep alive in your breast that little spark of celestial fire, called conscience. - George Washington

I'm flipping through my copy of Nullification. I'm sure there are some gems in there to be had.

Founding father of what? The beer would just show Mr Adams had nothing to do with your PAC so he isn't "your founding father, so you don't have any right to the name."

If you named the PAC "Principles of Samuel Adams" that would probably force the beer to leave us alone.

Would this PAC use email encryption to keep it's communications and members secret? Would it have to report to every government agency the name of every donor?

Donations have to be reported to the states where we will be registered, but since we are not going to deal with federal candidates, we won't have to file with the FEC, meaning that none of that info goes to the feds.

However, if you've ever donated to a candidate for federal office (Ron Paul? Rand Paul?) they probably already have that info.
