What Rand Paul's Totally F***** Campaign Says About America

With Trump you KNOW something's going to get done.

I don't. I mean I know something meaningless and self-promotional will get done. I expect a big wall somewhere relatively highly populated like San Diego with big block letters, "TRUMP," written on it. But I don't expect him to do anything substantive. And if he does, it will all be bad.

It's really a magnificent plan. The others are losers, and I don't like losers. The people love my plan; they really do.

When Trump talks about winners and losers, the biggest losers in life line up to cheer on Trump because they have never critically thought through any real problem.

When Adolph Hitler rose to power, he did so by speaking to people who were more intelligent than any Trump supporter.

Sadly, the personality which makes for a thoughtful person (such as might discover libertarianism) and the personality which makes for a good politician rarely coincide.

...not to say that Rand is a bad politician, but he's obviously not a natural (a compliment, except that it makes him less likely to win).

I just keep telling myself that we arent crazy. I had Ron Paul's platform pretty much before I knew there was a Ron Paul. There is a logic to the underlying positions, and I know of too many people who think like I do for another liberty candidate not to come down the pike. Libertarianism is way bigger than the Pauls. But one thing must be learned in libertarian circles....Reagan's old commandment not to speak ill should apply doubly among us. Our numbers are very few, and from time to time our enclaves fracture in ways that arent productive towards the end goal. See Cato, see Reason, see what happened to Ayn Rand's little click - its all so stupid, that very very smart people have allowed this to happen. It is probably happening with the Pauls now. We are going to have to work together in the future. Maybe Justin Amash can help unify us later on, or Massie, or someone else. We will keep having the opportunities, if we can just continue to grow ranks. I see libertarianism as the most pragmatic political policy. It is pragmatic to say that authority should ideally devolve towards the smallest unit, the individual. It is pragmatic to note that government more often fails in things than it succeeds. Maybe that is why there is such a riff now, pragmatism vs idealism...well, both are good, and arguments can be had, but the nastiness, the backfighting, the cold shouldering has to stop or else we will continue to be subjects.

Rand is not a great candidate to win the Presidency. He is bad at too many aspects to be able to win a race this big. That said Rand could run the best campaign in the world strategically and there is no scenario where he would be dominating. He is not talented enough politically and his views are radically out of the mainstream of the Republican Party and there are too many strong candidates competing for the same pool of voters.

Rand is also the strongest liberty candidate to ever run. There is zero likelihood of a strong liberty candidate in the next cycle and I would bet against a candidate as strong as Rand coming around in my lifetime. It isn't impossible that a strong liberty candidate could do well in the future, but it is very unlikely.

How exactly is he weak on immigration?

Can you explain the difference between Rand and Trump's policies (emphasis on policies: not rhetoric)?

Simple. Trump supported amnesty and then lied about it. Rand didn't support amnesty but the right wing media lied about him. Any questions?

With Trump you KNOW something's going to get done. Rand gives the same wishy washy rhetoric the GOP has heard for 30 years.

 You know that Donald Trump actually openly called for amnesty of illegal aliens right?

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump stated that after he would “get them back where they are,” he wants to “expedite” the legal immigration process for the “good” illegal immigrants in the US “of which there are many” after and that “I want people to come into the country,” provided they do so legally on Monday’s “Hannity” on the Fox News Channel.
