What I learned in New Hampshire working this weekend - *WARNING* *DIVISIVE*

1. Chase down TV personalities who have verbally attacked Ron Paul. Curse at them and insult them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9p9uBLqz958

2. Grow your hair long. Longer and more unkempt the better. Republicans listen to you better. Along the same lines, grow the wildest most unkempt beard you can. Visible tattoos also help sell Republicans and undecided indepdendents in New Hampshire. Social conservatives just love those tattoos.

3. You don't need to put a suit on to GOP events - just look like you just put on whatever was laying on your floor and come to that GOP business-attire or formal dinner or bruncheon. Yellowed Ron Paul Revolution t-shirts work well with jeans. It doesn' matter that all the other Republicans are wearing suits - you'll fit in and they'll listen to you anyway.

4. Yell and interrupt all TV news appearances. It especially helps if you yell out things like "the fed is evil" and "abolish the fed". 98% of people already know that the fed causes damage and want it yelled out. Its not necessary to explain yourself in more well-mannered tones and discuss the problems of inflation and printing money and overspending. Yelling "abolish the fed" to voters is enough.

5. It doesn't matter what voters want to hear. What matters is that you say what you want to. Don't use Ron Paul's phrases to promote his message - use your own! Don't use his website, RonPaul2008.com, under Issues, to learn phraseology about how to discuss issues - come up with your own more advanced, radical ones!

6. Spend your time talking to voters who are wearing "Huckabee", "McCain", "Hillary", and "Obama" buttons. Argue with as many Giuliani volunteers as you can. Those are the people you need to convert. Just because they're volunteering for another campaign doesn't mean their minds are made up. Don't bother talking to the 40% who are undecided voters...convert other candidates volunteers!

I hope you're able to stay positive Avery. You're right, but we have to fight through it.

Ahhh, the joys of a misguided youth... don't worry, these are the same people who otherwise would be staying home or voting for Obama. Take what you can get. It's probably a wash anyways in this election as for Ron Paul, any publicity will help.

In the long run, most of these young people, no matter how inappropriate their dress code, will grow up and have real jobs after college and come to the realization that their views were right, but their process of persuasion was a little misguided.

So where were you working this past weekend?

(These are the joys of gaining the support of the youth voters)

I was thinking about this earlier. It's great that we have the young crowd, as they are the voters of tomorrow and the workhorses of today... But young people are inexperienced and don't think about having to appeal to older voters. They think you can win presidential campaigns through You Tube and Digg. Those are fine tools, but they're limited in their reach.

Concord and Manchester.

If people are smart enough to understand Paul's points about freedoms, they are smart enough to know how to sell his message and the responsibility that goes along with freedom.

When I see these kinds of things going on I try to suggest to them "What would Ron Paul do?"

To a certain extent we need to act like fakes. It's a sad state of the world that someone will listen to someone well dressed than someone that is rag tagged. Of course people of their own click will think they are cool by dressing like hippies but we are in the world of American politics which is probably more fake the WWE wrestling so we need to go undercover and ursurp these idiots (nicely of course).

So you are basically complaining about what you see as a dress code violation, people not being as original as you, and yelling back at the media who attacks us routinely? Wait...I left out addressing the issues with other volunteers, they are lost souls and not actively thinking anymore.

Your hair makes you look like a hippie compared to me, so go cut it off.

I don't believe there's anything fake about acting like Ron Paul. There's nothing fake about doing your best and being your most effective for the Freedom Movement.

You may have to change yourself to do that, but that's not fake. Its certainly disingenuous to say you believe in the cause and are dedicated to that end but not change yourself in order to achieve it.

What happened to all the Hippies when they grew up?

Most became Yuppies and sold out.

.

From 1968 on through the seventies there was this left-wing, long-haired, drug-stoned, free love movement in Germany. They didn't appeal to the masses, they didn't win elections, but 25 years later those guys dominated the media and politics. You maybe now former German secretary for foreign relationships Fischer. He was one of those and was caught on photo attacking policemen in the 70s. Current secretary for foreign aid was very socialist in the 70s and current secretary for health care was in fact member of a maoistic union.

This revolution has raised conciousness of many people and they will never forget it.

If not for the very people you were complaining about, Ron Paul wouldn't even be where he is right now...

I say let the people do what they will do.. it isn't hurting.

Its a question of respect. Someone who walks in with a shabby beard and unkept hair will not be taken as seriously as someone who is well groomed. Someone who presents their arguments logically and confidently, even in the face of ridicule and slander, receive respect.

No matter what any of you choose to believe basically everyone makes snap judgments about people based on their looks, it's human nature to do so. The question is "whats more important to you?", your superficial facade, or your principles and ideals? I think most reasonable people would realize that its worth it to sacrifice your facade as a "rebel" or "anti-culture" in order to make it easier to bring others to our cause.

I don't believe that is true. They probably are hurting to some level, they are creating associations between Dr. Paul and his supporters. This just as much as anything has the ability to drive people away.

My point is those people can be 2 or 5 or 10 times more effective in helping. And they should be. We need them to be. Ron Paul needs them to be.

And you're wrong - some of these behaviors do hurt the campaign.

Avary,

I have done most of my volunteering on the seacoast but I have made it up to the headquarters in Concord twice and have been a little taken back at some of the characteristics you mentioned in your message.

Avery (OP), this is not the time for you to stay in this forum. Please use your effort at NH for the last few hours!
Thank YOU very much!!!

you know what - dr paul himself could use some of this advice. he comes to debates completely unprepared and talks incessantly about monetary policy (his pet interest which less than 1% of voters understand or cares about) while barely mentioning free markets. he stirs every question into foreign policy question suggesting that every problem would be resolved if military bases were closed - all this while being unable to produce any relevant figures when questioned about this on meet the press. instead of coming with fresh examples and points he repeats himself incessantly.

within ten minutes last night on leno he 1) suggested that fox was afraid of him 2) accused other republican candidates of disliking romney because he is a mormon 3) repeated his worst answer from saturday's debate about how the biggest problem with healthcare is foreign policy 4) singled out kucinich as someone whom he likes while refusing to name a single republican he had anything in common with.
