While I think we all agree with that public education needs to go, I don’t think its secular nature is the problem. Since public education is essentially big government indoctrination taught by bureaucrats, it’s not hard to see where the lack of good ethics comes from. While I do not disagree with the parental freedom to choose a religious education for your child, religion is not the best answer to the problem posed in this topic. While religion does provide some good ethics, it also provides some very bad ethics. Might I suggest that the best ethics are no farther than right here; in the good old philosophy of individual liberty? But since Constitutional ethics would undermine its big government agenda, public education is never going to do a good job of teaching it and therefore will continue to be devoid of any good ethics.
Again, I agree that the DOE (along with all the other big gov acronyms [IRS, DEA, ATF, FDA, DOT, etc]) needs to go.
