Thats one from October.... Kent Snyder supposedly did an interview today... WHERES THE VIDEO??????????
Dammit, I didn't know that. I got that link in the ronpaulradio.com chat room today, thinking it was about today's interview.
Greenspan is very libertarian and was actually a friend of Ayn Rand. He supports many of the same policies that Paul advocates. I don't understand why so many people here hate him so much.
Because when he was fed chief, he didn't implement those policies? He said he supports the gold standard before, and after his tenure, but during? Psh.
The Fed chairman hardly has the authority to end fiat currency. He did, however, work endlessly to combat inflation and pressured presidents and congressmen to reduce deficits.

Because he sold out and became the Fed Chariman working for the dark side of monetary policy despite his earlier personal position.
He knew the truth and helped to fu@k America over anyway.
That's called traitorous behavior.

It was on FBN at 6am CST on a show called Money for Breakfast. The interview was about what Ron Paul would do about the current subprime lending crisis.
I only watched it once early this morning, so this may not be exact. Mr. Snyder said that Ron Paul would take measures to prevent this sort of thing by doing away with the Federal Reserve and the central banking system and giving the people a sound currency. He would allow the free market to handle the situation.
The Fox guy did not like that answer and said something like, "That's great, but people are hurting. What would Ron Paul do about the situation RIGHT NOW?" Mr. Snyder gave a similar response about doing away with the Federal Reserve and giving people a sound currency. The Fox guy eventually said, "So Ron Paul wouldn't do anything to help those hurt by these mortgages? Mr. Snyder said, "No." The Fox guy then continued on without giving Mr. Snyder a chance to say, "Thank you for having me" or anything else. He just went away and the show moved on.

So you'd rather we have a socialist Fed chairman who wants to increase central planning in the economy, instead of someone who wants the power to belong to the market?

I don't think he necessarily sold out. I think he believed that he was doing the best that he could with the tools that he had. It isn't like the fed chairman can abolish the fed. Plus the market reacts to statements by the fed chairman, so he had to be careful with what he said. I mean what would someone else have done in the same position?

He was doing his job. It's the mission of the Federal Reserve to reduce fluctuations in output. You have to do what the Federal Reserve does so long as we are on a fiat currency at least if you believe that what they do is effective. It really depends on whether you believe that the time it takes for monetary policy is less than the time it takes for the economy to self correct itself or not. Greenspan alone cannot put us back on the gold standard. It would take an act of Congress to do that.
I'd much rather have someone who understood the gold standard in there than someone who didn't. He admitted in his interview with Jon Stewart that the Federal Reserve had to imitate the gold standard so long as we were on a fiat currency. I'm not sure that he did it because of the bubbles that were blown under his watch but I could be wrong.
