What Everyone's Missing On The Jimmy Kimmel Firing

"Conservatives are celebrating the firing of late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel after ill-chosen remarks about the killing of Charlie Kirk. Those on the Left are crying "cancel culture" on the Right. But there is something important that is being missed regardless of one's views on Kimmel. Also today: Trump's "special envoy" for the Ukraine war goes full John Bolton - will he finally get sacked?"

Distilled:

The real issue isn’t Kimmel - it’s the machinery behind the suspension. Dr. Paul argues that both the Left and Right are missing the deeper problem: the increasing fusion of government influence and corporate media power. He sees Kimmel’s suspension not as a victory for decency or a loss for free speech, but as a symptom of a system where speech is policed by political pressure and media conglomerates acting in concert.

Weaponized outrage provides nothing but distraction. Conservatives cheer the cancellation; liberals cry “cancel culture,.” But Dr. Paul suggests both reactions are shallow. The real danger is how easily public discourse is manipulated by outrage cycles, while the underlying structures of control go unchallenged.

Dr. Paul sees FCC involvement as a red flag. He is especially concerned about FCC Chairman Brendan Carr’s public condemnation of Kimmel. Even without direct censorship, he sees this as a form of state intimidation - nudging broadcasters toward compliance through regulatory threat.

Throughout, Dr. Paul reminds us that liberty requires tolerance of offensive speech He emphasizes that defending liberty means tolerating speech we dislike. The fact that Kimmel’s joke triggered such swift institutional response is, in his view, a sign that liberty is losing ground to centralized control.

That about it, or did I miss something?

I dunno. The FCC issues licenses. Same as I have an electrical license, I have to follow strict rules pursuant to that license or face significant pressure from the licensing board- the FCC has rules governing broadcasting. These are public airways, and the rules don’t apply to streaming content or other forms of entertainment content distribution- just the ones that are covered under the broadcast license.

Most people aren’t crying about “muh free speech” about the FCC saying you can’t put porn on the evening news.

There is also a component that the content had to benefit the public interest.

Now the question is does Jimmy Kimmel lying on air about the assassin benefit the public interest? I say no. All the facts are readily available- it’s clear as day this wasn’t a right winger, a maga who was so far right he couldn’t stand Kirk. We have the text messages, we have the family statements, we have the etchings on the casings. He purposely and knowingly lied about those key facts.

So yea, I think the FCC is right to step in. They should have stepped in sooner.

What did Kimmel say (No, it's not porn, nor screaming "Fire!!!" in a packed auditorium. It's the type of speech that Kirk advocated for as Free Speech).

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said during his monologue. “And in between the finger pointing, there was grieving on Friday. The White House flew the flags at half-staff, which got some criticism, but on a human level you can see how hard the president is taking this.”

Kimmel then cut to a video of a reporter outside the White House offering Trump his condolences about Kirk and asking how the president has been holding up.

“I think very good,” Trump said. “And, by the way, right there you see all the trucks. They just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House, which is something they’ve been trying to get, as you know, for about 150 years. And it’s going to be a beauty.”

Kimmel then returned on screen and reacted to Trump’s response.

“Yes, he’s at the fourth stage of grief: construction,” Kimmel said. “Demolition, construction. This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend. This is how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish, OK?”

Yea the media needs to be able to lie all it wants to.
But what was the lie? Seriously? Can you or @Anti Federalist or anybody else explain to me what the lie is that Jimmy Kimmel said?

The truth is that MABA HAS been trying desperately to characterize the shooter as not MAGA and the liberals have been trying hard to make him MAGA. Okay, we have the text messages to his supposed "trans lover", but as Candace Owens and Steve Bannon have pointed out, those text messages as suspect. What we know for a fact is that the shooter group up in a MAGA household. So...he went off to college and immediately turned gay and Antifa? Maybe. Or maybe that's a narrative we're being fed. Ben Shapiro had to admit on Bill Maher that while he was saying the shooter was leftist he didn't know for sure and the shooter could be a right wing "groyper." People are fighting over the narrative. And Donald Trump really doesn't give a rats ass about Charlie Kirk's death.

those text messages as suspect

Yours is turning into a circular argument. Robinson himself is only a suspect; he must be innocent because he has only gotten to the preliminary hearing stage, right?

At the very least he's massively hypocritical, as he was standing there himself trying to score political points...

Yea, Tyler Robinson isn't left wing at all he's super right wing conservative obviously

As far as I know, Kimmel didn't "lie" about anything in this particular monologue.

It was distasteful and crude speculation perhaps, but nothing I would not have expected from Kimmel.

My understanding of this, is that the network affiliates were sick of having to run his show, with low ratings and I imagine constant backlash and boycotts being directed at local station management. These are stations outside the NYC, DC, LA bubble.

They used this as a handy excuse to force the network's hand and give Kimmel the boot.

I agree that the FCC should not have stuck its stupid snout in the mess and just let it play out.

At the same, I don't really care, in light of the fact that they have been doing the same exact thing for decades to "our" guys.

No federal speech law has been passed that Kimmel could be charged with, unlike Ricky Vaughn he is not been sent to jail on bogus speech charges, he's free to speak his mind right now, however he sees fit.

There is no 1st Amendment violation here.

if that is the case the network should have said that we are sick and tired of you Jimmy and your ratings have been slipping over the years. We have been trying to figure out a way to get rid of you and we have concluded we want you out of here.

What about the Texas kid thrown out of Public University? Was not Kirks entire rhetoric built around there is nothing wrong with offensive speech? Seems this texas kid was exercising his right to offensive speech and expression.

He could just be a patsy. Where was the gun when he jumped off of the roof?

Preach it, Reverend! saieth the choir. And that Twiggs character would surely be at the center of it.

Those texts read like one guy who is guilty of some kind of collusion, and likes to read gothic romance novels, and has both phones, and is writing a narrative to cover his/her/their/its ass, while also making it look like he/she/they/it were an object of great devotion by picking up one phone, then the other, and creating a solitaire "conversation".

That's pretty much exactly what happened.

According to network spokesmen, the FCC remarks came after the decision was made to let Kimmel go.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yet according to Nexstar, Carr's comments weren't a factor. "The decision to preempt ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ was made unilaterally by the senior executive team at Nexstar, and they had no communication with the FCC or any government agency prior to making that decision," a Nexstar spokesman said.
Disney executives weighed whether Kimmel should address the controversy directly on Wednesday night’s program. According to people familiar with the matter, Dana Walden, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, and Chief Executive Robert Iger decided his planned remarks risked inflaming the situation further.
After the conversation between Kimmel and Walden, she and other senior executives thought that the star’s approach could make the situation worse, people familiar with their conversations said. Executives also discussed staff safety, including threatening emails staff on Kimmel’s show had received after Carr’s remarks and the posting of some of their personal information online, the people said.
Walden huddled with her team and Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger before the two executives decided to temporarily take “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” off the air, the people said. She then informed Kimmel of the decision. -WSJ
According to a person close to the show, Kimmel was planning to say that MAGA was purposefully twisting his words. So, another lie.
I wonder if his parents are also tranny loving furries who engrave antifa memes onto their bullets
And yet the "tranny furry" conveniently volunteered all of these messages to the FBI including text messages saying exactly where the gun was which is sus considering the fact that the gun is nowhere to be seen in the video where he jumps off the roof.
