This has probably already been asked.

What is required to start up a news channel to compete with Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc?

Billions.

Marc Cuban has billions and hes afraid of endorsing Ron Paul :/
He owns broadcast.com aka Yahoo

The cost of an over the air television station will vary with the market. In Chicago couple of hundred million dollars or so is my guess, here in Des Moines maybe $30 to $50 million.

Now if you want to start a competing news network you need a cable or satellite provider who's will to gave (rent or lease) you a channel. The best bet for that I think would be Dish Network, privately owned so Charlie may be willing to commit a channel to a freedom news network - if he's shown they would get 250,000 new subscribers in the first couple of months. Remember Fox only gets 4 million regular viewers.

you'd have to start with one state and expand, it'd take year to get national station unless you want to start a network and have affiliates

OUr best bet is to get Liberty magazine other than reason that doesn't have some sort of party leaning, is just fair reporting about liberty and the issues.

that and a social network like RJ is doing with Freeople.com

It takes an internet connection. Then, all you have to do is get people to use the Internet. That's where I come in. We're working on it.
