Sorry novice here - I hate shorthand!

I see things like "Ron Paul 2008! FTW!!"

My first impression of it was honestly, "F**k the World!" ...yea, that gives a good impression with voters.

But then I thought, "For the Whitehouse"?

Please just spell it out!

I thought it mean F**k the world myself, but from internet gaming I've learned it means, "For The Win".

Yeah, I've had trouble picking up internet shorthand, too. That's why I pretty much never use it, except for QFT, which is a compliment by the way (quoted for truth).

I think it means for the win--I think.

I just wish someone would explain IMAO to me. Still don't get it.

In My Asinine Opinion

You sure you don't mean LMAO - Laughing my @$$ off

Perhaps the IMAO means "in my arrogent opinion" as a play on the common IMHO which means "in my humble opinion"

and welcome to the forum, ehynick

No, I managed to figure out LOL and the slightly more emphatic LMAO all by myself. Had something to do with usually seeing them both through the tears myself.

FTL is slightly less common, but I'm sure once you know FTW is For The Win, FTL is, naturally, For The Lose.:(

Thanks everyone! And thanks for the welcome.

That makes me feel better that someone with 905 posts doesn't know something.
