What Do You Think Are The BEST ALBUMS EVER?

Can I include opera? That's pretty much a classical music album.

One of my favorites, Parsifal, about the Grail Knights. It's by Wagner, the guy who brought you Valkyries in horned helmets.

I think the music is sublime, hope you agree.

I don't know much opera, but Dido's Lament is one of my FAVORITE songs. Absolutely incredible. Hope I find the version I heard in MUSC 100 again someday. Might be my memory making it seem that way, but I don't think so. It was on the Norton Anthology. Not sure which version. She was PERFECT. "Remember me..."

I Really like the ZZ before that , but I did see that show . J . Geils ? gotta go with Must of Got Lost and the intro with the ' Reputa the Beauta " thing

I was going to put "ALL of 'em" for ZZ Top, too, but I forgot! (Shame on me! :o Deguello, Tres Hombres, El Loco, etc. - they're all fantastic!)

And I *did* remember to put "ALL of 'em" down for J. Geils. And I *love* that scat-rap intro to the live version of Musta Got Lost! (It's on one of their live albums & their 1979 "Best of" collection - along with "Whammer Jammer" - can ya dig it?)

Best song intro ever ....

Men at Work - Business as Usual
Men at Work - Cargo
Men at Work - Two Hearts

Oh, man. I just found out Greg Ham died about a month & a half ago - on April 19th. That sucks. That really, really sucks.

As their saxophonist/flautist, Ham was a HUGE part of Men at Work's distinctive sound - which was one of the reasons they were so successful.

Rest in peace, Greg! You'll be fondly remembered every time I hear "Down Under" or "Who Can It Be Now?" (or "Overkill" or "Down by the Sea" or "No Restrictions" or ...)

Wow, people here have amazing taste in music! This should keep me busy for a while.

Anthrax - Persistence of Time

In My World

They're gonna put me in jail?
Man, I'm already in jail
Don't they know that my life
Is just one big cell

I'll bite the hand that feeds me
And I could give a damn if that hand needs me
Why can't you leave me alone?
A lie may fool someone else
But it tells you the truth
You're weak, just another clone

I just want my life
To do whatever I like
Yeah, it's a selfish need
To have no responsibility
So I'll say what I'm gonna say
'Cause I'm going to hell anyway
I'd rather be alone
In my world

I'm not afraid
I'm not afraid
Nothing touches me
I'm a walking razor blade
Face the face of fear
Face the face of death
Laugh when others tear
Hate when others laugh

In my world it's cold
My defense is like stone
No one gets inside, 'cause
In my world I'm home
In my world I loathe
And you'll always pay a toll
No one gets inside, 'cause
In my world I'm home

An adult at thirteen
My childhood was a dream
A full clout nightmare, a sight unseen
My greatest fear as a kid
One which I always kept hid
Was to come home from school
And find my mother dead

I just want my life
To do whatever I like
Yeah, it's a selfish need
To have no responsibility
So I'll say what I'm gonna say
'Cause I'm going to hell anyway
I'd rather be alone
In my world

I'm not afraid
I'm not afraid
Nothing touches me
I'm a walking razor blade
Face the face of fear
Face the face of death
Laugh when others tear
Hate when others laugh

In my world it's cold
My defense is like stone
No one gets inside, 'cause
In my world I'm home
In my world I loathe
And you'll always pay a toll
No one gets inside, 'cause
In my world I'm home
Home

I'm not afraid
I'm not afraid
Nothing touches me
I'm a walking razor blade
Face the face of fear
Face the face of death
Laugh when others tear
Hate when others laugh

I'm not afraid
I'm not afraid
I'm not afraid
I'm not afraid
I'm not afraid
I'm not afraid

If I had to name one album that would be most appreciated by members of this forum, it would be Frank Zappa's Thing Fish.

Zappa is definitely missing from too many lists here, if you haven't heard him you are missing out on the greatest composer since Mozart, and I'm not exaggerating in the slightest here (Zappa fans know what I mean).

I'm surprised none of these have been mentioned yet, so I'll throw out a few other suggestions for those looking for some really great music, where you can listen to the whole album and there's not a single weak track on them:

Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
Jane's Addiction - Ritual de lo Habitual
Alice Cooper - Killer
and specifically for people who get off on melodic guitar: Fermata Piesen z Hol (they're Czech)

Spock's Beard - Snow

THIS! After reading the name "Spock's Beard" at least ten times in lists of bands I'd probably like, I had to check 'em out. I didn't know what I was getting into. Awesome, awesome band, and equally terrific album.
