What did you do to celebrate Earth Day?

I did my best to irritate a few environmentalists on Facebook by posting the fact that Vladimir Lenin's birthday is on the same day as Earth Day, as well as a few other points of interest.

What are your stories?

Sprayed two full cans of hairspray into the air. Bought ready to get out the Freon( the banning of which curiously coincided with the expiration of its patent).

Same thing as everyday. Try to consume less energy and such to prove that it's possible to help the planet without the gov. getting involved.

I pointed out that the Icelandic volcano (Eyjafjallajökull) has emitted more pollution in the last month than all of mankind combined since the first Earth Day 40 years ago.

I changed almost every dimmable reflector bulb in my house (75w incandescent bulbs) to dimmable 8w CFLs. The rooms are not as bright and have colder temperature spectrum light, but we'll live with it.

Didn't even realize it was Earth Day until my 5 year old daughter told me. :p

Went to work, came home, finally finished cutting back the branches away from the house, weeded the garden, grilled some chicken, and then sat around a fire with my wife and daughter until about 10pm.

How expensive are dimmable CFL's versus incandesant?
How big are they for similar sizes?
At one point I had to use 2 CFL's in exchange for an ind. because the light wasn't as bright.
It's still better though.

The cfl bulb is for R30 fixtures (most typical high hats), the bulb itself is smaller than the incandescent one which was replaced, produces much less heat, and produced an equivalent to a 45 incandescent bulb (325 lumens). It is listed to have 18,000 hour life span.

The bulb cost about 13.50 each.

I think all light bulbs are made in China, CFL or otherwise. GE moved their operation over 20 years ago.

Nothing. And I am not proud of it. I am concerned that mankind will be too little too late in dealing with our environmental problems. We care. We want to so something about, but it is visibly not life threathening.

When it becomes visibly life threathening, it will be too late.

I drove my Hummer down to Santa Pod to watch an afternoons top fuel dragster racing ..... what else ?

I was responsible for sabotaging BP's oil rig. Granted, I didn't breach the pipe on Earth Day, but then, every day is Earth Day!!!

For the next Earth Day, I was thinking of causing a meltdown at a nuclear power plant.
