What are some good "positive thinking" book recommendations?

With all that is going on in the world, it's nearly impossible to think optimistically, at least for me. I was a happier person before I learned about all the bad things going on in government and business. I'm looking for a good read on how to keep your emotions from dragging you down. Any suggestions?

Read the book that started it all.

"Think & Grow Rich" By Napoleon Hill.

Everything else is just a copy of this information reshaped and with a higher price tag.

Ignorance is truly bliss. And when people start to lose that ignorance, it scares them right back into it.

If you haven't read it already, I recommend "The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History" by Thomas Woods. While it gets more depressing as the year go by, it never gets too bad. It was extremely entertaining for me to read, especially the War for Southern Independence chapter. However, I am a fan of the topic, so it may not be for you.

In "think and grow rich" I really love how he writes about using your sexuality. Tat alone is worth the price of the book.

I've read most of them that are around and in my opinion the very best is Awaken the Giant Within by Anthony Robbins.

Quit hoping and you'll never be disappointed. You'll actually be very happy whenever something works as it's supposed to, and you'll be able to admire the beauty of something working fluidly. Stop expecting people to have any moral standards similar to your own, and realize your own moral code is unique. You can attempt to influence others' moral code, but don't expect nor hope to. You'll be happy whenever someone says something you agree with instead of angry whenever someone says something you disagree with. You'll find it easier to be civil around people who would normally raise your blood pressure.

And if none of what I just said is true, then I imagine all feelings really are synthetic, and you should just delude yourself into being happy.

Don't expect your parents to help you. Don't expect the government to help you. Don't expect any store employees to know what they're doing nor want to help you. Don't expect people to be polite. Don't expect people to have the time nor will to listen to anything you have to say. Don't expect people to discuss anything civilly.

Don't hope for anything mentioned, either, and whatever you do, don't think of anyone as being inhuman for reaching a new low in "being human". Nothing is uncalled for just because you didn't imagine they'd react as they did.

Pretty good advice, IMO.

Expectations define satisfaction. Lower expectations of others, and become more satisfied.

Study the laws of attraction and apply them to your life. Remember, you attract into your life, whatever you think about.

Ignorance is piss.

When those people lost their homes because they don't understand the business cycle... I'm not sure if they'll agree to the notion, they'd prefer ignorance than the truth.. which would have resulted in them not having to now live in a tent.

In all honestly.. learn about natural law / Austrian Economics...

Rothbard was one of the happiest dudes around...

He knew the soviet union was going to crumble... socialism will fail - it is inevitable..

:)

I was in a rut for awhile where I was in a shit mood all the time, I think it was mostly because was expecting people to realize that our society is going to shit like I do and I considered it unacceptable if they didn't see things that way. That isn't healthy for anyone, and life is way too damn short to live like that. I still enjoy learning about philosophy more than anything else and I still enjoy talking about it I just don't expect people to even listen to me like Kludge said. I enjoy the simpler things in life like having a good woman, having a nice place to live, and having a job I can enjoy. I know that my philosophy works great for me so there is no reason to expect or need others to accept it too, not to discount the value of having peers critique what you believe, but ultimately you are the only one that matters.

The Happiness Hypothesis is a great book.. one of my favorites.
