What are grounds for an ass-whooping? (Caution: Profanity)

Since a certain violent encounter between two strangers is such a popular topic these days, I thought I'd add a true story from an hour ago. I was not a participant in the following conversation.

Down at the local Quicky-Mart, there were a lot of people coming in to get Lottery tickets. They had two registers, but no clear lines. While filling out a Lottery card, I notice that the lines had gone down and there were fewer people. There is one guy and his girl standing near one register, but kind of blocking the two register lines which are down to a person at the each register and one more person behind. Another guy comes in, obviously in a rush to get his ticket and get out. He asks the guy standing there "is this one line or two"? So it appears that asking this question is grounds for an ass-whopping in the eyes of many. The much larger guy with the girl ignores, or does not hear the question. A person leaves the further away register, and the new guy starts towards it. The first guy, who did not answer, side steps over faster and gets behind the person now at the register. The new guy now says, "I thought you were in that line". Big guy now turns around with a fine, civilized answer of "F-ck Off". (My first thought is that these are two guys who know each other and are talking smack). The Smaller guy says, "I thought you were in the other line." Big guy responds "f-ck you". Little guy says "well, kiss my ass". Big guy: "You'd like to l-ck my ass.", Little guy "I was just asking..." Big guy: "You're gonna get your ass checked in two seconds".

What happens next? What if one of them is packing? What should happen next?

People are uncivilized, its a dog eat dog world. Doesn't matter who started it, two wrongs don't make a right and who ever is smart enough to leave well enough alone saves both guys a fight.

Actually, that was my plan. A loud voice of authority (or insanity) works wonders. ;)
 
Winston watched them disgustedly. And yet, just for a moment, what almost frightening power had sounded in that cry from only a few hundred throats ! Why was it that they could never shout like that about anything that mattered ?

Until they become conscious they will never rebel, and until after they have rebelled they cannot become conscious.

Orwell was right. He just got the date wrong.
 
Big guy was an off duty cop.

Another smart remark by little guy would result in his death by lead poisoning.

And a two week vacation for big guy.

You'd better be damn sure you've fully researched and understood what the deadly force laws if you carry a sidearm.

Failure to do so, like failing to keep quiet around cops, may end up costing you years in prison.

Little guy reacts to imminent threat from big guy and smartly lands a three punch combo right in the kisser of the big guy, sending "big" guy on his arse for being a complete jackass and escalating to threat of physical harm over something insignificant.
"big" guy's girlfriend shrieks with delight and says "it's about time"
"big" guy hangs head in shame and buys "little" guy's lottery ticket and a beer. lol
 
Grounds for ass-whooping is a personal decision to be made by the individual. Small scale events like that are a part of human nature and for me, I'm not as interested in being some huge, philosophical judge on them all. But I suppose I can I guess:


What I don't like in this particular stated, scenario is that the smaller guy really doesn't have grounds to claim he was wronged.

Why do I say that. I say that, because if the big guy and his girlfriend weren't standing in that position and the smaller guy was, the small guy would of done just exactly the actions the bigger guy did himself. He proved it in what he did. His desire was to jump into the position of the fastest moving line, as was the man and his girlfriend.
Both lines were equal, therefore the larger man was doing what the smaller man himself desired to be doing. The larger man, being there first, had more right to jump into that position than the smaller man. For the smaller man to complain that another did an action he himself desired to do, is hypocritical.

If the smaller man had simply jumped into a line and the larger one had complained, he could of gave up his position in that line and went to the other line. Or he could of asked why he wasn't waiting in line already and not done so. He didn't however. I can't defend him.


You know this whole scenario sounds like one heck of a reason to shoot someone. Or get into a fight.
In fact who the heck fights with random strangers? That's weird.
 
My INTJ answer: And this is why I've always hated places with disorganized queue lines. If you have multiple lines make it clear, a single line into multiple registers...same thing, use physical dividers.

Other answer: double leg, full mount, tenderize the face, and run.
 
I find that kicking the big guys knee sideways usually brings them down to my size.

Oh, and pulling a gun on me is very likely to piss me off.
That said,, I usually try to diffuse it before it gets to that point.
