Not a must have but a nice-to-have is "Go to Last Post" which takes you to the bottom of the last page instead of the top.

Handy feature especially for the "Best Picture" thread.
We'll have to see what works best / what's available. Good item for the backlog. Thanks.

Yes, it's goofy. And temporary.... it's been a long time coming for this upgrade (on tap for 6 months, over due by a few years...)

I've got more variants of the banner... designed for different moods. The "not so happy" one is stellar. :)

I think there are better images of Dr. Paul than either the current or the original. An official photo would be perfect since he's posing for a photo with a good camera, etc. Just my $0.02 (inflation discounted)...

Images which I think present Ron Paul well:

From the famous 2008 End the Fed speech:

I have some basic image-editing skills so if you'd like me to upscale/edit an image with Photoshop/AI (Stable Diffusion), I'll be happy to help, pro bono.

I'm glad the ignore feature now also blocks quotes from people you have on your list, even if they're quoted by someone else. Honestly maybe it worked like that before. I can't really remember because I haven't been able to log on maybe once or twice in 2 months.

Participation trophies, however:

Good point. I'm not a DNS wizard to know how this should happen... the old server is still running (which is what that's from) it will go off-line soon, but it's not clear why the URL doesn't go the new cloud site, for it to redirect.

So agree, this has to be fixed soon... Thanks!
I don't think that can be fixed. The URL Spudea posted looks to me like it was produced by the old forum software. Software programs/applications that serve up pages dynamically is a whole different animal from a website that has static pages (the web page URL's never change). You move your old website from Bluehost to Squarespace and all your old URL's will be fine. Switch from one forum software to a different forum software and the URL's are going to change.

We're not using the old software any longer, so URL's from the old software will no longer work.

Thanks! Unfortunately I wasn't very clear before. I understand the difference with the different URLs / site software. What's unusual however is that there is a different response when going to these two links:

www.ronpaulforums.com/external.php
www.ronpaulforums.com/external

This first one seems to still route to the existing server, and gives a 404 error. That URL was a valid URL with the old site. This doesn't provide a path to the new site.

The second goes to the new cloud server, displays the new site but has an "Oops!" error. Even with the error, at least you can get to the site. That URL was NOT a valid URL with the old site.

Otherwise, thanks for sharing the Ron Paul pictures @Intrepid and @ClaytonB - for sure some good ones and I have the now dialed in. The debate was is excellent, and of course, now in use. Thanks!!

Thanks. The banner photo looks great. I love that one too.

Which machine a URL takes you to is a function of the DNS system, not the URL itself. If the URL begins with "www.ronpaulforums.com" then you're going to the same internet server no matter what follows domain_name.com.

In the first URL "external.php" is a page name, in the same way "external.htm" is a page name........ the page does not exist so you get a normal "404 Page Not Found"

The 2nd URL is looking for a folder named "external" and the server by default adds "/index.htm" or "/default.htm" or "/index.php" or "/default.php" depending on the operating system the web server is running.

Looking for a page that doesn't exist is different from looking for a folder than doesn't exist and produces different error responses. The missing folder behavior will depend again on the server OS and how it is set up.

Either way, both URL's are taking you to the same machine (or might be a bank of servers) because your domain name is assigned to a particular I.P. address that lives on only one machine (or server bank) on the interwebs.

Please share any issues you find.
Here's one: I attempted to find a post I was readily able to locate on the other using the keyword "dictionary". It no longer appears. The thread in question was started by myself, IIRC, some years ago where I made note of the incredible absence of proper definitions of words such as "crime" and "law". There was a goodly exchange and some rather significant progress was made toward establishing sound definitions. Search no longer yields that thread, and I was very much looking forward to copying that work.

Any hints?

What a nice surprise to find RPF switched over to Xenforo. I've been running some XF forums for many years. It's a solid software platform. I've probably forgotten more about configuration issues than I currently remember, but feel free to PM me @Bryan if you have any questions about XF. I'm happy to help if I can.

Got "An unexpected database error occurred. Please try again later." for a while this morning.

Seriously, if there's any way we can pitch in, please reach out. I'm not a web developer, but I work in high-tech (engineering) and I can provide useful suggestions for you. Getting some kind of DDoS protection (eg Cloudflare, and there are others) is cheap and easy and will not only protect the website from attackers, it will make it load faster and work better for legitimate users, by eliminating load on the server from attackers.

Yeah, I had some issues trying to use the search function too.

I wonder if it is completely implemented or indexed yet?
