We're starting weekly ads to promote the Ames straw poll. Here is the first - a 1/8 page size ad in our Fairfield Weekly Reader.

We'll do larger ads and other papers as funds allow. We need to raise more funds so please send this Chipin link out to people:

what did Steve think of that ad? Has Steve seen it?

Is Ron Paul's core message that the Republicans and the Democrats are the same? Does bring the troops home have special appeal to Iowa Republican voters?
Is End the Fed at the top of Ron Paul's list? What I think I'd like to see are standardized ads, that the local groups can modify with their own special information.

Perhaps I'm way off, but these are areas where many Republicans don't agree with Ron Paul. His supporters know his positions and don't need to be reminded of the controversial ones.

Limited Constitutional Government is what Ron Paul pretty much stands for, and it's what the tea party is all about. Ron Paul is also a True Conservative who will make
big cuts in the Federal Government. Not just small cuts, but will abolish entire agencies. He has a proven track record of voting against spending. Ron Paul is someone who fought alongside Ronald Reagan in 1976 against the RINO Establishment.

Here's something. I redid your ad. and also something that is certainly "on message"

We created a lot of similar ads in 2007 -we ran weekly ads for about 10 weeks. Unfortunately due to a computer crash I dont have the copy any more. The result was we flooded the local GOP caucus with over 800 people when they were expecting 200! They had to delay the count while they photocopied extra ballots. The result was the only County to win for Ron Paul, and one of only 2 counties in the nation to win for him. The majority who supported Ron Paul here were not registered Republican voters. I would characterize the support base as anti status quo. But it could be different in other places. The main thing is, we created a visible campaign where no other candidates were taking local ads, or having weekly meetings. What we found was the ending the Fed and ending the war were the 2 areas that attracted the most support. We can bring up other points too in later ads.

I appreciate your effort but if our goal is to get Iowa Republicans to vote for Ron in the caucus, this type of ad will likely do more harm than good.

Well, my purpose here is to find some great ideas. we also ran ads paid and created in other states, including the one page USA today ad. My purpose here to focus attention on this medium, as we found it generates results - like over 70% in my precinct voted for Ron Paul in the Iowa caucus in 2008 - when there were 5 or 6 candidates to choose from. We will appreciate all ideas - and will run ads others create if they want to pay for them. It's very inexpensive.

steve isn't paying for it. I see nothing wrong with the ad!

Great work Brian! You obviously understand your audience and are busting your ass to get Dr. Paul elected. Keep up the great work!

I would think that the official campaign controls the message. Steve is official campaign in Iowa.

If you can run unauthorized ads "for" Ron Paul, can you also run unauthorized ads "for" Mitt Romney?

Work in something like "When Mitt Romney left office in Massachusetts, Massachusetts was the only state
with legal Gay Marriage". That too would work with people other than registered Republicans in Iowa.

People can pay for anything, and no one can stop it, right?

Attacking Bachmann, T-Paw, and Cain would be more beneficial than Romney.

Well, the last moneybomb was Ron vs Romney. We are unlikely to get many Romney supporters, so people who don't like Romney will see we don't like Romney, and like Ron Paul more. Bachmann's supporters are more likely to support Ron Paul, so directly attacking her is more likely to piss them off.

And what do you mean attack? This is Mitt Romney supporters pointing out features of his record that might appeal to Democrats. I'm just suggesting that if Ron Paul supporters are going to broadcast far and wide positions that Ron Paul holds that do not resonate as well with mainstream Republicans, it might be more worthwhile if we help other candidates in the same way.

What positions does Ron Paul hold that the most tea partiers agree with? That's the message. Not, what positions does Ron Paul hold that are the most different from all the other candidates?

I might argue that "agree with" is too tame, whereas "passionate about" is more likely to get people to show up.

You don't want these ads to remind people, or tell them for the first time, that they disagree with Ron Paul on certain issues.

I created about 10 ads in 2007, but all gone due to a computer crash. This time around I will archive online and hopefully we can all share resources and create some stunning ads. I joined the group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RonPaulGraphics/ but have not figured out how to upload files there. It seems my files need to be smaller. I posted the latest version below. It's in a paper that is heavily democratic readership. We can post more conservative messages in other papers as funds come in to the chipin: http://fairfield4ronpaul.chipin.com/jefferson-co-4-ron-paul

We're focussed on folks who voted for Obama with this ad. And with those dismayed with politics in general. These ads only cost $50 to place in our weekly paper. We need more funds so if anyone wants to sponsor an ad, and help design one that would be much appreciated. It really makes a big impact, and well worth the money I feel.

Have you discussed with Steve the merits of putting ads in Newspapers that go to Republicans and Democrats alike? Perhaps the campaign does not want ads going out touting Ron Paul that appear to be designed to appeal to Obama voters. That might turn off Republicans. And this is a Republican Straw Poll. I'm not sure what the absolutely core message is, but I would think that the campaign would like to have a coherent message.

I would recommend that the official campaign design half ads, or ads with the messaging on them, leaving aside space for anybody, like the Fairfield Meetup Group, to add their own specifics. When there aren't any recommended templates, the grassroots can just go off, unguided, coming up with their own custom message which might completely contradict some other message the next county over is trying to push. Maybe people in Ames have determined that the Republican base thinks that Ron Paul is weak on defense, and they're going to make clear that there are tough elements to Ron Pauls defense policy. Or, someone wants to use the Reagan endorsement.

Get a good short message. True Conservative? Limited Constitutional Government? Less Government, More Freedom? Whatever it may be. And hammer that home. Message discipline.
