I concur with them bashing the euro. But what about the pound? I mean, the UK is as bankrupt as all the other countries.

German "intelligensia" is interested in staying in the euro. The banks want the debt repayed and the industrialist like to have a market like the EU. The politicians obey. The problem they have is they dont know how to convince their population to pay for the rescue of the PIIGS. They are doing it step by step.

The population in Germany hasn't realized that they have to pay for it yet.

That´s just political talk. The same process went on back in 2008. They (CDU) changed their opinion several times and finally bailed out several banks. They have already made massive concessions in the current public debt crisis. Initially they were against the ESF.
The German gov is owned by Deutsche Bank which is heavily exposed to the PIIGS.
Merkel is a complete flip-flopper.
The classical liberals = libertarians are also bought by special interests. They should be ashamed for claiming they´re free market advocates.

The only positive thing about Germany is that they have a strong manufacturing sector and only one really global bank (Deutsche Bank).

It's not just the Germans, it's more or less the general attitude here in Europe although Germans it would seem are the most hardworking of us bunch..
