I'm from Texas and unless there is a dramatic turn of events, we're probably looking at 3rd or 4th. And it doesn't really look like Rand is doing anything to help Ron win Kentucky. Seriously, where the hell has Rand been during this election? If my dad was running or president, I would be out campaigning like hell to get him elected.

I get an occasional spam email from "Rand Paul" but that's about the only thing I've heard from him this election. Is it too much to ask to return the favor since he rode his dad's coattails to get elected Senator?

I presume the Paul delegates in KY will go stealth, and agree to vote for Santorum on the first ballot. It will be hard for Rick to lose a state so demographically similar to Tennessee and Missouri.

In each state, it's up to liberty delegates to asses their numbers and aim for achievable goals. My recollection of the Kentucky state convention reports in 2008 were that is was very insular and unwelcoming, like Georgia's was. The real effort may be more to break apart the ruling cliques and open up the process.

However, it depends who he is actually running against by the time the election gets there, I suspect, and KY is where Rand is, so they are used to thinking outside of the box a bit more, some of them.

I don't think Rand is far off from his Dad in terms of actual beliefs. He just ads a dose of pragmatism. He is also clearly in the Senate as his own man, which gives him a lot more credibility than riding into office on his father's coattails.

Rand would have NEVER won if his father wasn't Ron Paul. He would have NEVER won if his father had not run for President in 2007/8 and galvanized this grassroots movement. Never. Ever. Rand Paul obviously owes his life to his father. He also owes his political career to his father.

And he should have helped the campaign.

Guys, Rand is Ron's son and Ron is Rand's father. Let's not forget that. They are a lot closer to each other than we are to either of them. We should let Rand do what he thinks he has to.. everyone has their personal and family lives, lets respect that.

Reality is the falling of grassroots people?

Sometimes it really IS best to accept a loss in a battle rather than waste resources.

Every single "Ron Paul can WIN (insert state here)!" followed by a 3rd or 4th place finish saps a little more strength from the collective. Much better to be realistic and focus on the states that could be won. Like Hawaii this week.

Primaries simply are not Paul's strength. Not only in terms of winning, but also in terms of getting stealth delegates. (which is a bad idea anyway.)
