We Need to Turn Up The Bible Rhetoric!

I remember in 2008 hearing Huckabee explain how he was so successful at winning the support of Christians by saying that he "spoke the language of Zion," or something like that, which was his way of admitting that he did exactly what the OP suggests. What I think he meant was that he would mingle Sunday School terms in his speeches, like "redemption" and whatnot. I didn't like it, and I don't respect people who do that. But I can't deny it works.

Um, so that's how Huckster won the nomination?

That's what I thought.

What say we keep talking about the issues, and keep being ourselves? I think we're finally seeing the day when most voters have gotten sick of being pandered into the poorhouse, and are at long last ready to hear less pretty lies and more truth. Otherwise we wouldn't be doing so well. So, how about we stop being cynical and arrogant for a minute and remember how we got here--education, sensibility and truth. We just got people used to these things. We had better stick with them.

You hear Ron Paul pandering? I don't. I just see him walking the walk. Walking the walk, Ron Paul style, wouldn't even hurt you atheists any. Really.

I hereby nominate this as the unintentional troll thread of the year.

Not sure what that's supposed to mean. McCain's as big of a panderer as anyone.

I wish I could agree. I hope I'm wrong.

FWIW, I do agree with you that RP shouldn't pander, even though I think it generally works.

We need to win over James Dobson and his followers, also the Liberty University People, and Kirk Cameron. Then Get Chuck Norris and Iowa will vote Ron Paul.

Um...do you think Christian conservatives are idiots? I think it is the wrong strategy to think you are going to fool people just by having the right catch phrases imo.

But if you are saying that we need to awaken Christians to their own tradition of Liberty in this country, then I'm with you.

"Hope." "Change."

Remember?

I Hope this Changed your Mind.

Come on guys, what's the big deal? Just make a few bible references when speaking with a possible straw poll voter. At the very least let's give the impression that Ron Paul has good "christian" supporters too. Most of you probably are christian so it shouldn't be too hard. Just for these next few weeks or so wear it more on your sleeves. It will work!

From now on we need to start a sentence or phrase with Amen, bless you,Jesus etc etc. If we intend on winning Iowa we need to show them that we talk the talk as well. Win over the Iowans with bible verse.Take a Sunday course or two and brush up on your bible studies!

If you're not a believer and you're doing this it will come across as pandering. However there is nothing wrong with framing issues from a Christian perspective. For example, here's a Bible verse that supports voluntary support of causes instead of taxes.

2 Corinthians 9:7 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Here's an answer for all of those who run around crying "The mooselems are gonna git us!"

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

Here's a verse for those who think we should turn Iran or some other country into a "glass parking lot".

Matthew 5:43-44

43Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Verses for those who think we have some God given duty to treat Israel special.

Galatians 3:28

There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 3:11 Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.

Galatians 3:29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

He came a lot closer than we did last time. And with a crappy record.

That's what I thought.

Right. Ron should quit talking about Christianity, dress in drag and support abortion like Rudy Giuliani so that he can be anointed a "frontrunner" by the liberal media. ;)

I do hear Ron being open about his faith. And he has at timed framed issues in terms of his faith. He's quite comfortable with that actually. And it's NOT pandering.

Here is Ron Paul talking about the "Christian just war theory".

And here's a Ron Paul supporter expanding on that theme from a Christian point of view.

Really.

I hereby nominate this as the unintentional troll thread of the year.

LOL. I consider it a great idea but presenting the wrong way. If you are a Christian and you find Dr. Paul's ideas fit your Christian ideals, there is nothing wrong with framing those ideas that way when talking to other Christians. But if you're not a Christian, of if your walk is shaky, and you're just "sprinkling in Bible verses" without any rhyme or reason then that would be counterproductive.

Ron Paul 2012!! True Freedom For ALL!!!! Individual liberty, not Groups, corrupt politicians put us in!! to steal Money & Make War. And make us hate the other groups. Peace Folks;-)) Peace

Absolutely. He shouldnt shy away from talking about his Christian conservative values. It's who he is. And to boot, it appeals to Iowa primary voters, if he bombs in Iowa he's gonna bomb everywhere else. It's common sense, only a fanatic atheist would object.

I would object. I'm not an atheist.

I think we're in complete agreement. And you know what else? I don't even think it matters which voter you're talking to. I think an atheist would be perfectly happy and even impressed to hear a Christian supporter talk about how Ron Paul wants to drive the moneychangers from the temple. Really. Just as surely as any Christian who has eyes to see what's going on in Washington will be impressed to hear an atheist supporter talking about what Ron Paul has against corporatists in secular language.

Talk how you talk. But talk the issues, not your notion of how to pander.
